How did you get into your business, or what motivated you to start it?: I commuted to D.C., employed as a reference librarian for large, corporate law firms, for 17 years.

The commute finally won. I looked for something I could do locally and found The Skin Care Shop in Shepherdstown, W.Va. The owner needed an esthetician and said if I went to skin-care school, she'd hire me when I completed the course of study."

She said she worked there for more than six years before striking out on her own.

And, she said, "I really enjoy what I do - helping people feel and look better."

Previous business experience: She worked for 6 1/2 years at The Skin Care Shop.

Number of employees: She is the sole employee

Hours: Tuesday through Thursday, 1 to 7 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Appointments are recommended.
