Mail Call

Mail Call

"I would like to take this opportunity to announce my withdrawal from the election of President of the United States. As a voter, I have simply grown weary of the election process. It is only March and I no longer have the interest nor the inclination to vote. What saddens me further is a 94-year-old friend, WWII veteran and devout voter, told me tonight that he thinks he won't be voting this time. The candidates didn't wear me down, they wore me out." - Washington County

"Mr. Obama, there's a Sen. Kennedy on the phone who says he wants his endorsement back." - Waynesboro, Pa.

"I know Mail Call is not about lost and found. I called in last week to ask a neighborhood to help locate a children's lost cat. Children just recently lost everything to a house fire, but no, Mail Call did not think that was important. But you did put a stupid movie review in of a ridiculous movie. Let's see, children crying for their lost pet, asking for help, or a movie review. Hmm, hard choice, Mail Call." - Clear Spring

"I'd just like to respond to a person that called in from Hagerstown about the bullying in the school and in the workplace. Yes, I've been a victim at the workplace, but I think you misunderstood it because the paper edited it a little bit. I've been working there for 13 years, and the same bully is there, the person has been bullying me, but something is being done about it. I am not letting it go. I just wanted to correct you and to let you know. Anyways, I did go to my supervisor . . . so I went over my supervisor's head, and this person will be dealt with. So have a great day." - Hagerstown

"I am a Bush lover. The reason that I'm a President Bush lover is because he's fair, he's a good president, and he cares about values and morals; something that we can't say about a lot of other of our public officials. And I am a Republican, and I did pick up a rifle and I did fight for this country." - Hagerstown

"I'd like to praise the three elected officials who had the guts to try to purchase some property in downtown. Let's call them the wise men."

"I'm calling in reference to the potholes all over Hagerstown. I know the City's really busy and got a lot of work to do, but I was just wondering when they're gonna start patching up all the streets from the snow and the salt removal. Just a suggestion for the City to take care of this, because this is a major problem in this town." - Hagerstown

"I was watching the speech the other day by Obama, about his preacher, Jeremiah Wright. He said that he could remember racist things that his white grandmother said years and years ago, but yet he can't remember anything this guy said over the last 15, 20 years, 10 years, five years ago." - Hagerstown

"This is on Easter Sunday's paper, 'Fear of losing a home'. There's been over 672 foreclosures in Washington County in the last 11 and a half months. The other day in the paper it said that more people are moving into Washington County than what they are moving out. These 600 people that's foreclosed on their homes, I guarantee the majority of them is moving out of Washington County. All they want to do is raise your property taxes. That's why people can't afford their homes. The state and county and city all raise your taxes, your house payment goes up, then you can't afford to make the payments. Then what happens, you got a foreclosure on your house, because the politicians don't know how to quit spending until things goes back a little bit." - Washington County

"I would like to know, what does the Easter Bunny have to do with Easter? That's the trouble with people in this country and all. They commercialize everything, and they don't take holidays or days such as Easter very seriously, or they know what it's all about but they don't want to acknowledge it. American people, especially these people that has a business, turn every holiday, no matter what it is, into a money holiday. Everything's about money, which is ridiculous." - Greencastle, Pa.

"I'd like to know why the light bills has doubled around here. It is ridiculous. I got a daughter that lives by herself, she doesn't even wash clothes at home; she goes to the Laundromat. She's not home all day long; she works, and her light bill more than doubled itself this time. How can people afford to pay a light bill and pay gas bill to go to work? What is going on with this country?" - Boonsboro

"Just finished the morning paper. First the county commissioners overpaid for those properties, then they admit they aren't sure what to do with them. Must be nice for those three commissioners to be so flush with cash. You think they'll ever vote to lower our property assessments? Ha." - Hagerstown

"I want you people to understand something about the statements that Barack Obama's pastor made. If a white person would make the same statement, it would be considered racist. If a black person makes the statements, well, that's OK. You know it's a one-sided thing here. The white person always has to defend everything they say, even if it's an innocent mistake." - Sharpsburg

"No one is saying that the government needs to 'solve' anything. They need to fix what they screwed up, namely the Iraq War, the economy and the USA going broke. Used to be if a problem came up during your watch, regardless of your job, you would be responsible for fixing your error(s). There is absolutely no accountability with Bush's administration. And as a result the rest of the country thinks they can get away with lying through their teeth, or are just plain in denial." - Hagerstown

"I do hope everyone read Charley Reese's editorial in Saturday's paper about the government being weak. Rule number one, people given power will tend to abuse it. Rule number two - and this is the one that applies: Politicians have an inclination to lie. The Bush administration lied us into a war. No weapons of mass destruction. All of that was just figment of his imagination. I do hope that we can bring our country back to the level that our founders made it, so many hundred years ago." - Hagerstown

"The same can be said about a woman also; it takes a real woman and mother to raise a child, not someone who just gives birth and walks away from her children. So it's not just for men." - Hagerstown

"I just wanted to make mention, especially since everyone's new cars are gonna cost a small fortune more because of the smog additions and all of the environmental junk that they put on them, over 50 years ago, Chrysler was producing a small V-8 with 180 hp, ran with 7-to-1 compression ratio, on 80-octane fuel, and I'd bet anybody that knows anything about cars knows the government probably wouldn't let them produce that motor nowadays. Just a little information." - Hagerstown

"I'm calling in regards to all these people complaining about Barack Obama's minister and some of the controversial things he said, and are trying to say does Barack Obama believe what he believes. Honestly, does it really matter if Barack Obama agrees with his minister and holds those viewpoints? He said he stands for change and hope in America, so he's got my vote. If he upholds these opinions, it doesn't matter to me. What matters to me is hoping for change in America." - Hagerstown
