Deputies seek man who chased after children

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — Berkeley County sheriff’s deputies are urging parents to watch for suspicious activity following an incident in the Eastwood Mobile Home Community on Thursday evening.

At about 6 p.m., young children playing in a wooded area and shale pit near the community reported seeing a man acting peculiarly in the woods, according to a news release from the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office. At one point, the man chased after the children in a threatening manner, the release said.

Officers used a K-9 team and a search helicopter in an attempt to locate the man, but were unsuccessful.

The man is described as a white male in his mid- to late 20s, wearing a green cap, red shirt and shorts.

As warmer weather approaches, the sheriff’s office reminds parents to be aware of where their children are and ask them to contact local police if they see any suspicious or unusual activity in their neighborhood.
