William Howry Slasman, M.D., 82

William Howry Slasman, M.D., 82, of Hagerstown, Md., passed away Saturday, March 14, 2009, at Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown.

Born Saturday, Nov. 20, 1926, in Baltimore, Md., he was the son of the late William Howry Slasman and the late Louise Walker Slasman.

Bill graduated from the City College of Baltimore A Course, Johns Hopkins University, and the University of Maryland School of Medicine.

He served in the Navy during WWII. He practiced medicine for 40 years, in otolaryngology, and later, phlebology. He moved his practice from Baltimore to Hagerstown in 1965.

Bill served as a past president of the Washington County Medical Society, a member of the Washington County Hospital Staff Executive Committee, the Medical and Chirurgical Society of Maryland, University of Maryland Surgical Society and the American Medical Association. He was a fellow in the American Academy of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, the American College of Phlebology and the Phlebology Society of America.

Other activities included being a charter board member of the Symphony Orchestra in Hagerstown, past president of the Hagerstown Rotary Club and serving on the church council at St. John's Lutheran Church. He was a member of Fountainhead Country Club, the Hopkins Club of Baltimore and the Baltimore Country Club. He was also a member of the Hagerstown Masonic Lodge.

Bill was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, and an avid golfer.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Annette Olt Slasman; three daughters, Dorothy Slasman Mondak and her husband, Michael J. Mondak of Fredericksburg, Va., Peggy Slasman and her husband, Gerard J. Sarnie of Sudbury, Mass., and Laurie Slasman Long and her husband, John D. Long of Lutherville, Md.; six grandchildren, Jessica Long of Lutherville, Victoria Long of Lutherville, William Sarnie of Sudbury, Laura Sarnie of Sudbury, Andrew Mondak of Richmond, Va., and Daniel Mondak of Fredericksburg.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Annette Mary (Annie) Long.

Memorial services will be held Wednesday, March 18, 2009, at 2:30 p.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, with the Rev. Edward Heim officiating.

Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 17.
