Township approves Pa. 997 garage plan
WAYNESBORO, Pa. - The Washington Township Supervisors approved a land development plan Monday for the expansion of an auto garage, and the board reviewed two other plans.
On a 4-0 vote, the supervisors approved a new, four-bay garage for Anthony Highway Auto Sales and Service. The supervisors had previously rezoned Mitchell Hickock's property at the intersection of Pa. 997 and Stottlemyer Road from low-density residential to commercial.
"Everything is really in place for this," Township Planner Clint Rock said before the supervisors approved the plan.
The supervisors also gave preliminary approval for a plan that could create a retail facility on Pa. 16 between Wayne Heights and Rouzerville. The 7,800-square-foot building adjacent to Country Corner Meat Market could allow Chuck Morningstar to move Waynesboro Floor Covering, according to statements from a Washington Township Planning Commission meeting.
Neighboring property owner Sunburst Gardens submitted a letter saying Morningstar wouldn't need to create a buffer area as extensive as what could be required under township code, Rock said.
In other business, the supervisors talked to attorney Stephen Patterson about Antietam Creek Estates, a planned residential development at the intersection of Pa. 316 and Washington Township Boulevard.
Patterson said developer Dan Long, of Waynesboro, is undecided whether he wants to keep a commercial portion of the project. That factors into deciding if the development should have an entrance from Pa. 316, he said.
"If that (commercial aspect) happened, the residential part of the project would happen first," Patterson said.
Six acres of the 122-acre tract had been set aside for businesses.
