Crumbs from the Cracker Barrel 2/21

Teaching at Lane's Run School held many pleasant memories for Mabel McDonald Weller, who wrote, "I commuted each day by horse and buggy from my home in Clear Spring. This was a beautiful drive over Fairview Mountain. I turned right from Route 40 on the National Turnpike onto the Funkhouser Road where I continued driving. Near the foot of a hill on Funkhouser Road, an old gentleman by the name of 'Laddy Dave' Forsythe had a little store. Each morning as I neared the store, he was in the doorway with a bag of candy - a chocolate bar for me and several pieces of candy for each of the children."
