Thelma Grace Suffecool, 89, of 1019 Spruce St., Hagerstown, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2005, at Beverly Health Care.
Born Jan. 26, 1916, in Frederick County, Md., she was the daughter of the late Edward and Hattie Blair Stallings.
She was employed by Fairchild Aircraft for 33 years.
She attended Grace Brethren Church.
She was a member of AARP, the Oldtimers Club and UAW.
She is survived by two daughters, Judy Flook of Maugansville and Donna Burker of Hagerstown; two sisters, Helen Kershner of Funkstown and Ruth Turner of Hagerstown; one brother, David Suffecool of Hedgesville, W.Va.; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Alice Douglas; and two brothers, Bud Stallings and Lee Stallings.
Services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, East Wilson Boulevard, Hagerstown. The Rev. Brad R. Flook will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Madison Grace Esworthy, infant daughter of Kevin Jeffrey Esworthy Jr. and Danielle Nicole Rudolph of Hagerstown, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2005, at Washington County Hospital.
She was born Jan. 31, 2005, in Hagerstown.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her maternal grandmother, Barbara Rudolph of Fairplay; her maternal grandfather and stepgrandmother, Howard and Tanya Rudolph of Hagerstown; paternal grandparents, Lisa Esworthy and Peter Schrock of Hagerstown; maternal great-grandparents, the Rev. Martin and Margery Rudolph of Chattanooga, Tenn.; and one sister, Alexia N. Rudolph of Hagerstown.
Graveside services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Williamsport. The Rev. Daniel Jordan will officiate.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Hilda M. Mace, 66, of 2743 Mount Vernon Ave., died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2005, at Forum Health Northside Medical Center in Youngstown.
Born Feb. 17, 1938, in Gerrardstown, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Joseph S. and Rosie Mae Hite Miller.
Her husband, Fred P. Mace, died in 2001.
She attended school for 12 years.
She was a homemaker.
She is survived by five daughters, Debra Mirto of Boardman, Ohio, Shonna Logan of Petersburg, Ohio, Joan Consiglio and Cathy Torella, both of Struthers, Ohio, and Melissa Herubin of Youngstown; one son, Charles Metz of Hagerstown; two sisters, Virginia Bagent of Charles Town, W.Va., and Eleanor Miller of Hagerstown; two brothers, David Miller and Clifton Miller, both of Williamsport; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Louise Reedy; and two grandchildren.
Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Clemente Funeral Home in Struthers. The Rev. Vince Hardy will officiate. Burial will be in Lake Park Cemetery in Youngstown.
Friends will be received at the funeral home today from 5 to 8 p.m.

Calvin Eugene "Vinny" Dutrow Jr., infant son of Calvin Eugene Sr. and Racheal Michelle Cannon Dutrow of Hagerstown, died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2005, at Washington County Hospital in Hagerstown.
He was born Saturday, Jan. 29, 2005, in Hagerstown.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by paternal grandmother, Patricia Barnes of Frederick, Md.; maternal grandparents, John and Lois Leggett of Greencastle, Pa.; maternal grandfather, Richard Cannon of Hagerstown; maternal great-grandmother, Dorothy Eaton of Williamsport; maternal great-grandfather, Samuel Webb of Williamsport; and two sisters, Jessica Chaney of Greencastle, and Zoie Dutrow of Hagerstown.
He was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Bernard Stone and Paul Barnes.
Graveside services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Williamsport. The Rev. Victor Fowlkes Sr. will officiate.

WARFORDSBURG, Pa. - Robert "Pap" McCray, 75, of 829 Barnetts Run Road, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005, at Chambersburg (Pa.) Hospital.
Born March 28, 1929, in Warfordsburg, he was the son of the late Edward G. and Jennie Truax McCray.
He was a carpenter.
He was a member of Pleasant Ridge Church of the Brethren in Needmore, Pa.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth L. "Betty" McCray, whom he married June 29, 1950; one daughter, Rhonda G. Younker of Needmore; one brother, Mark McCray of Hancock; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, Wade McCray, Willis McCray, Cam McCray, Leon McCray and Lloyd McCray.
Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Ridge Church of the Brethren, Needmore. Pastor Roger Truax will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Ridge Church of the Brethren Cemetery.
There will be no visitation.

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Barry Douglas "Doug" King, 58, of 139 S. Price Ave., died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005, at his home.
Born May 20, 1946, in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late Dolly E. Ritter Smith.
He was a 1964 graduate of Thurmont High School.
He was a production engineer with Frick Company in Waynesboro.
He was a member and two-term steward for Local UAW 1296 with Frick Co., a member of the Order of the Owls Nest 1073, Eagles Club Inc., Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 191, all of Waynesboro, and Sons of AMVETS Post 7 in Thurmont, Md., among others.
He is survived by his wife, Linda L. Wireman King, whom he married July 3, 1965; one daughter, Tanya Lee Hughes of Blue Ridge Summit, Pa.; one son, Troy D. King of Waynesboro; two grandchildren; nieces; and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his stepfather who raised him, Harry C. Smith; one sister, Nancy M. Jones; and one brother, Russell L. King.
Services will be Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home in Waynesboro. Pastor Wilbur F. Besecker will officiate. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.

James L. Thomas, 93

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - James L. Thomas, 93, formerly of Johnstons Lane, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005, at The Shook Home in Chambersburg, Pa.
Born March 24, 1911, near Mercersburg, Pa., he was the son of the late Franklin and Mary Ada Mullenix Thomas.
He and his wife operated a dairy farm near Mercersburg for 31 years.
He was a member of Clayton Memorial Church of God in Mercersburg.
He is survived by his wife, Vera M. Koser Thomas, whom he married Jan. 17, 1937; two daughters, Darlene L. Taylor of Mercersburg and Thelma M. Higgins of Greencastle, Pa.; one son, Melvin E. Thomas of Fort Loudon, Pa.; one sister, Martha Pittman of Mercersburg; one brother, Roy Thomas of Osceola Mills, Pa.; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by one son, Lewis J. Thomas, six sisters and five brothers.
Services will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home in Mercersburg. The Revs. Marcus E. Tanner and Floyd E. Myers will officiate. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery in Mercersburg.
Visitation will be Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Lucile O. Lewis, 86

Lucile Ours Lewis, 86, of 1158 Luther Drive, Hagerstown, Md., died Monday, Jan. 31, 2005, at Ravenwood Lutheran Village in Hagerstown.
Born Oct. 28, 1918 in Bass, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Statton Ray and Myrtle Bean Ours.
She was employed by Fairchild Industries.
She was an instructor with the Maryland Medical Secretarial School, and was the founder of The Legal Department.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
She was the member of the National Society of Southern Dames, the Maryland Division of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, serving as president from 1994 to 1996, the Order of Eastern Star, serving as worthy grand matron, the DAR Maryland State Registrar from 1988 to 1991, the Maryland State Scholarship Chairman from 1950 to 1952, the ex-charter Regent Antietam Chapter, the DAR Antietam Chapter Scholarship Chairman from 1991 to 1994, the Daughters of the Union Veterans and past state president, the Women's Club, past-state president of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and the past state president of the Daughters of 1812.
She received her law degree from Blackstone in Chicago. She formed the Legal Department at Hagerstown Business College, taught law there and retired from there.
She was the grand president of Alpha Iota Sorority, and in 1959 she established a chapter at Hagerstown Business College. In 1975, she wrote the history of the sorority, of which portions were printed in the Encyclopedia of Education.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Vernon J. Lewis Sr.; one son, Vernon J. Lewis Jr. and his wife, Bonnie V. Lewis, of Hagerstown; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and one special cousin, Nellie Leatherman of Old Fields, W.Va. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Statton Ray Ours Jr. and Fred Bean Ours.
Graveside services will be held at noon Thursday at Mine Road Baptist Church Cemetery, 111 Post Oak Drive, Spotsylvania, Va. The Rev. James M. Eure Jr. will officiate.
Friends may call at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Mildred Catherine Bartles Shives, 86, of 13606 Grandview Drive, Hagerstown, Md., passed away Monday, Jan. 31, 2005, at Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown.
Born Sunday, Sept. 15, 1918, in Clear Spring, Md., she was the daughter of the late Isaac Newton Bartles and Nora Cornelia Sowers Bartles.
She retired from M.P. Moler after 381/2 years.
She was a member of Hagerstown Church of the Brethren, Order of the Eastern Star Olive Branch No. 34 of Keedysville, Md., where she served as Worthy Matron. She also was a member of R.S.V.P., AARP, Haven Road Senior Citizens where she served as past president, and Keenagers of Grace United Methodist Church. She also volunteered at Western Maryland Hospital Center.
She is survived by her husband, Roy Edmund Shives; two sisters, Jesse Eleanor Gum of Hagerstown and Violet Patsy Lorene Mills of Clear Spring; and seven nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Crystal Carolyn Mellott.
Services will be held Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005, at 10:30 a.m., at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. N., Hagerstown, with the Rev. Edward L. Poling officiating.
Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m.
Interment will be in the Parkhead Cemetery.

Donald M. Schwartz Jr.,
KEEDYSVILLE - Donald Monroe Schwartz Jr., 53, of 20051B Dogstreet Road, Keedysville, Md., died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2005, at his home after an extended illness.
Born Dec. 11, 1951, in Frederick, Md., he was a son of Anna Main Schwartz Valentine of Frederick and the late Donald Monroe Schwartz Sr.
In addition to his mother, Donald is survived by his beloved wife, Denise Marie Armillei Schwartz; one son, Christopher J. Schwartz of Keedysville; two sisters, D. Lynne Parrish and husband Robert of Union Bridge, Md., and Debra M. Smith of Ridgecrest, Calif.; his mother-in-law, Rose Armillei of Baltimore; brother-in-law, Ray Armillei and wife Sherry of Abingdon, Md.; two nieces; Jennifer L. Parrish of San Diego and Valia A. Armillei of Abington; four nephews, Clinton R. Parrish of Truckee, Calif., Peter J. Armillei of Abingdon, Stenson M. Smith and Skyler D. Smith, both of Ridgecrest; two special friends, Marna "Yea Yea" Benjamin and Ruth Ann Baker, both of Cambridge, Md., and numerous beloved cousins; aunts; and uncles.
He graduated from the University of Maryland in College Park in 1973 with a bachelor's degree in dairy animal science. He received his mater's degree in agronomy from the University of Maryland in 1983.
After graduation Donald was a partner in his family dairy and crop farm, Cedar Knoll, in Middleburg, Md. From 1978 until 1985, he was an extension agent for 4-H and youth with the Maryland Cooperative Extension (MCE) in Dorchester County, Md. In 1985, Donald became the extension agent for agricultural science with MCE in Washington County.
He was a strong advocate for agricultural issues and public awareness. Donald was committed to agricultural land use and was instrumental in getting an agricultural planner hired in Washington County and nearly 35,000 acres of farm land being placed in preservation programs. He assisted the efforts of the Washington County Farm Bureau in getting a "Right to Farm" ordinance and a number of zoning ordinances impacting agriculture adopted in the county.
Donald was a firm believer in agricultural education. He wrote a column for many years for the agriculture page of the Hagerstown Herald-Mail newspaper. He helped organize Ag Days held at the Valley Mall and was part of the city school children "Kids Growing with Grains" program. Donald assisted with planning the Kindergarten Farm tour at Western Maryland Resource and Education Center near Hagerstown, which taught 4,600 students, teachers and parents about agriculture, nutrition and farm animals.
He was appointed to and served on numerous agricultural committees, teams and task forces. He helped organize, assist with and judge many local and state agricultural community shows and agriculture expositions. Donald chaired or moderated many conferences, teams and work groups investigating or concerned with improving and facilitating agriculture in many areas.
He was a member of the Washington County Farm Bureau, Washington County Soil Conservation District, Washington County Ag Expo, Washington County Dairy Herd Improvement Association, Hagerstown Chamber of Commerce Agriculture Committee, Maryland Dairy Industry Association and the National Association of County Agriculture Agents (NACAA).
Donald received numerous state, regional and national awards through the NACAA Search for Excellence Recognition Program. He received the Distinguished Service Award for more than 20 years of dedicated extension work in 2000.
Donald was an avid hunter, outdoorsman and master woodcrafter.
He was affiliated with St. James Catholic Church in Boonsboro.
The family will receive friends on Friday, Feb. 4, from 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. at Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro.
A memorial service will be celebrated 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 6, at St. James Catholic Church on Main Street in Boonsboro. The Rev. Fr. John Carter and the Rev. Fr. George Limmer will be the celebrants.

Michael C. Wilson, 60, of Bittersweet Drive, Hagerstown, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2005, at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore.
Born May 20, 1944, he was the son of the late James H. and Regina Jones Wilson.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge.
He owned and operated Mike's Barber Shop in Cavetown.
He is survived by one son, Paul A. Wilson of Missoula, Mont.; one brother, James R. Wilson of Fallston, Md.; two grandsons, Justin A. Wilson of Greensburg, Md., and Sydney Q. Wilson of Missoula; two nieces; and one nephew.
There will be no viewing.
Services and burial will be private.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Edith Virginia Dennison, 88, of Martinsburg, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2005, at City Hospital in Martinsburg.
Born June 12, 1916, in Strasburg, Va., she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin Henson and Mary Catherine Henson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Dennison.
She was a member of Calvary Chapel Pentecostal.
She is survived by two daughters, Linda K. Hess and Nancy Hess, both of Martinsburg; three sons, Larry Dennison and Paul Arvin, both of Martinsburg, and Jimmy Arvin of Augusta, W.Va.; 14 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Charles Arvin; one sister, Marji Parker; and two brothers, Robert Henson and Buster Henson.
Services will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Martinsburg. Pastor Marcus Caton will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery.

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Helen Hawryluk Hodges, 57, of 5573 Buchanan Trail West, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2005, at her home.
Born April 6, 1947, in Lebanon, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Peter and Elsie Foltz Hawryluk.
She was a 1965 graduate of Annville-Cleone High School. She received a nursing diploma from Lankeneu Hospital in Philadelphia in 1968. She received a bachelor of science degree in nursing from Lebanon Valley College in 1970 and a master's degree from the University of Michigan in 1974.
She was last employed as the diabetes educator at Waynesboro Hospital from January 1994 to Sept. 30, 2003.
She was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Fayetteville, Pa.
She was a member of the Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Diabetes Association.
She is survived by her husband, the Rev. Douglas N. "Doug" Hodges, whom she married Dec. 30, 1971; one daughter, Heather L. Hodges of Baltimore; two brothers, Peter C. Hawryluk of Annville and Keith Hawryluk of Lebanon; nieces and nephews.
Services will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at St. John's United Church of Christ in Fayetteville.

LENOIR, N.C. - Kathleen Melissa Biggs, 90, of Laurelwood Place, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2005, at Shaire Center in Lenoir.
Born Oct. 30, 1914, in Morgansville, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Rev. S.H. and Maggie Delane Seward Jessee.
She was preceded in death by her husband, W.H. Biggs.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of United Presbyterian Church.
She was a member of the Grange.
She is survived by one son, W.H. Biggs Jr. of Lenoir, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Leland G. Jessee and Marshall K. Jessee.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at United Presbyterian Church in Lenoir. The Rev. Stephen M. Austin will officiate.
Burial will be in Boonsboro.

Jewel L. Vaughan, 83

Jewel Lambeth Vaughan, 83, of Ravenwood Lutheran Village, and formerly of Williamsport and Shepherdstown, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2005, at Washington County Hospital.
Born May 11, 1921, in Trinity, N.C., she was the daughter of Burl and Addie Leonard Lambeth.
She was a graduate of Trinity High School, Jones Business College of High Point, N.C., and Greensboro College, Greensboro, N.C. She also did graduate work from WVU. She had been a medical secretary at the VA Center in Martinsburg, a medical copy editor for Harper and Row Publishers, and retired as office manager for the WVU Graduate Center in Shepherdstown.
She was married in 1944 to Allen B. Vaughan, who died in 1988.
She was an active member of Williamsport United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She had been a volunteer church pianist and organist for many years and a nursing home volunteer pianist.
While living in Shepherdstown, she worked with her husband as co-director of the Shepherdstown Senior Center, was a member of the Jefferson County Commission on the Aging, and served a two-year term as an elected member of the West Virginia Silver-Haired Legislature.
She is survived by four daughters, Judy A. Butler of Inwood; Laura Beauchamp of Catonsville, Md., Paula R. Wyatt of Williamsport and Wendy J. Carr of Ranson; two sons, Leonard T. Vaughan of Martinsburg, and Wesley D. Vaughan of Maumee, Ohio; and five grandchildren, Allison Vaughan Meley, Scott Vaughan, Whitney Carr, Michael Vaughan and Suzannah Wyatt. She was the last of her immediate family.
A memorial service will be Friday, Feb. 4, 2005, at 11 a.m. at Williamsport United Methodist Church with the Rev. Marcia Mayor officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Donald R. Nead, 61, of 150 S. Third St., died Monday, Jan. 31, 2005, at Chambersburg Hospital.
Born July 20, 1943, in Saxton, Pa., he was the son of the late Lloyd Nead Sr. and Hulda Nead.
He was a graduate of Tussey Mountain High School.
He was last employed by Martin's Famous Pastry Shoppe in Chambersburg.
A veteran of the Vietnam War, he served in the U.S. Navy.
He was a member of Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599, Marine Corps League, and Burt J. Asper American Legion Post 46, all in Chambersburg.
He is survived by his wife, Donna L. Short Nead; one daughter, Sandra Durham of Chambersburg; one son, Brian Nead of Fayetteville, Pa.; three sisters, Velma Whitfield of Chambersburg, Patty Rhinehart of Saxton, and twin sister, Pauline King of St. Thomas, Pa.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Lloyd Nead Jr. and Dean Nead.
Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home in Chambersburg. The Rev. Paul B. Baker and Pastor Dan Keen will officiate. Burial will be private.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Edwin R. "Teddy" Faircloth, 59, of Martinsburg, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2005, at Winchester (Va.) Medical Center.
Born Nov. 11, 1945, in Southampton, England, he was the son of the late Paul F. and Elsie Lock Faircloth.
He was a 1966 graduate of Martinsburg High School.
He retired from the West Virginia Department of Highways.
He is survived by one sister, Linda Gray of Harpers Ferry, W.Va.; one niece; one nephew, Bradley Arvin, with whom he lived; and one grandnephew.
Services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Martinsburg. The Rev. David Davis will officiate. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery at Arden.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Lyle W. Mader, 85

SHENANDOAH JUNCTION, W.Va. - Lyle Wilbur Mader, 85, of Shenandoah Junction, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2005, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born Nov. 13, 1919, in Edgemont, S.D., he was the son of the late Steve August Mader and Bertha Tompkins Mader.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army.
He was an engineer and inventor with several patents under his name.
He is survived by his wife, Twylah Grandfield Mader; three daughters, Bonnie S. Briscoe of Hollywood, Md., Sandra L. Clipsham of Columbia, Md., and Sherry T. Fletcher of Sandy Spring, Md.; two sons, Larry M. Mader of Lummi Island, Wash., and Steve L. Mader of Shenandoah Junction; one sister, Bertha LaChance of Edgemont; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Mader and one brother, Steve Mader.
Services will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Martinsburg.
Private burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Shepherdstown, W.Va.
The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
