Woman arrested on drug charges during prison visit

CUMBERLAND, Md. (AP) - A Baltimore woman tried to smuggle $8,000 worth of heroin into the Federal Correctional Institution in Cumberland, state police say.

Carolyn Denise Jones, 45, was arrested Saturday when she arrived at the prison, authorities said Monday. She was charged with possession with intent to distribute heroin; possession of heroin; possession with intent to use drug paraphernalia; possession of heroin with intent to deliver to a correctional facility; and conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute heroin.

Jones was released Sunday after posting an $8,000 bond.

Police said the arrest followed a monthlong investigation, and the arrests of two inmates are pending.

The Associated Press was unable to reach Jones for comment.
