Donald R. Shaw, 63

MCCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - Donald R. "Bud" Shaw, 63, of McConnellsburg, died June 25, 2006, at the Fulton County Medical Center. Born Jan. 6, 1943, in New Grenada, Pa., he was the son of the late Donald Merril and Zenda Black Shaw.
He was employed as a truck driver for H.J. Culler Inc. in McConnellsburg.
His wife, Edith Golden Shaw, whom he married April 22, 1961, died in 2001.
He is survived by two daughters, Virginia Leasure of Mercersburg, Pa., and Tressa Weller of Greencastle, Pa.; one son, Donald Shaw Jr. of McConnellsburg,; two sisters, Susie Sweger of New Grenada and Donna McQuade of McConnellsburg; four grandchildren; one great-grandson; and a companion, Pat Murray of McConnellsburg.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Pleasant Grove Christian Church in Needmore, Pa. Burial will be in Rehobeth Cemetery with the Rev. Denver Plessinger officiating.
Friends may call Thursday from 2 to 9 p.m. at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home in McConnellsburg, where the family will receive friends from 4 to 9 p.m. Visitation also will be Friday, one hour prior to services, at the church.

Hubert E. Hershberger, 83

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Hubert E. "Hubie" Hershberger, 83, of 11293 Woodside Drive, died Sunday, June 25, 2006, at Waynesboro Hospital.
Born Dec. 27, 1922, in Martinsburg, Pa., he was the son of the late Claudis and Sarah Guyer Hershberger.
His wife, Mary Jean Lowry Hershberger, whom he married Dec. 27, 1944, died Oct. 29, 2002.
He was a graduate of Morrison Cove High School in Martinsburg, and attended Juniata College for two years.
He owned and operated Hershberger Chevrolet until his retirement in 1977.
He served in the U.S. Air Force as a pilot during World War II.
He was a member of Waynesboro Church of the Brethren.
He was a member of B.P.O. Elks Lodge 731, Joe Stickell American Legion Post 15, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1191 and Eagles Club Inc., all of Waynesboro, and had served as president of Waynesboro American Red Cross.
He is survived by one daughter, Caryl J. Bowman of Patton, Pa.; two sons, S. Lynn Hershberger and Gregg L. Hershberger, both of Waynesboro; two sisters, Clova Stoudnour of Martinsburg and Miriam Hoover of East Freedom, Pa.; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; nieces; and nephews.
Graveside services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg, Pa.
The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro, and Wednesday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the John C. Bolger Funeral Home in Martinsburg.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Waynesboro Church of the Brethren, 117 S. Church St., Waynesboro, PA 17268.
Ralph L. Munson, 67
DEC. 17, 1938-JUNE 25, 2006
HANCOCK - Ralph Lee Munson, 67, of Exline Road, died Sunday, June 25, 2006, at his home.
Born Dec. 17, 1938, in Little Orleans, he was the son of Mary Magdalene Potts Munson of Hancock and the late Norman R. Munson.
He attended Hancock High School.
He retired from Eastalco in Buckeystown, Md.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War, where he was awarded the Bronze Star during the Tet Offensive.
He was a member of the Webster E. Harrison Post 26 American Legion in Hancock.
In addition to his mother he is survived by his wife of 45 years, Karin Ingrid Belling Munson; three sons, Norman L. Munson of St. Thomas, Pa., James Munson of Warfordsburg, Pa., and Steven Munson of Hancock; four sisters, A. Gail Golden of Berryville, Va., Barbara J. Golden and Virginia D. Martin, both of Warfordsburg, and M. Catherine Davis of Hedgesville, W.Va.; two brothers, Stanley N. Munson of Hagerstown and Richard Munson of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Norma J. Yost; and one brother, Charles G. Munson.
Memorial services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Mount Olivet Presbyterian Church in Hancock. The Rev. John Barlow will officiate. There will be a gathering of family and friends at the church following services.
There will be no viewing or visitation.
Burial will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery in Flintstone, Md., where military services will be conducted by Tri-State Honor Guard.

Whitney K. Michael, 78

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Whitney K. "Kay" Michael, 78, of 889 Geyer Drive, died Monday, June 26, 2006, at Chambersburg Hospital.
Born Aug. 17, 1927, in Churchville, Va., he was the son of the late Whitney A. and Carrie Crum Michael.
He was a graduate of North River High School.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He was employed at Landis Tool Co. in Waynesboro for more than 30 years.
He was a member of King Street United Brethren Church, where he had served on the church board, sang with the choir, and served as a Cub Scoutmaster.
He is survived by his wife, Glenna Stoutamyer Michael, whom he married Sept. 6, 1951; five sons, Gregory K. Michael of Marion, Pa., Barry R.A. Michael, Eric C. Michael, Daryl L. Michael and Kevin J. Michael, all of Chambersburg; eight siblings, Mardee Kiser, Hinkle Michael, Drehla Sours, Dicie Hutchinson, Wona Faye Puffenbarger, A. Ray Michael, Flossie Andrews and Lois Lam, all of Virginia; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by an infant sister and three infant brothers; and one brother, William Michael.
Services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg. The Rev. Lester F. Stine and the Rev. Paul B. Baker will officiate. Burial will follow in Lincoln Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m., and Thursday, one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

Goldie M. Socks, 82

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Goldie M. Keefer Socks, 82, of 12976 Old Pen Mar Road, died Sunday, June 25, 2006, at her home.
Born Feb. 7, 1924, in Mercersburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Harvey Keefer and Eva M. Thomas Keefer Ricker.
She attended Mercersburg schools.
Her husband, Jacob F. "Pappy" Socks Jr., whom she married July 27, 1940, died July 14, 1992.
She worked as a presser at Waynesboro Knitting Mill for 27 years, retiring in 1982.
She was a founding member of the Pen Mar United Brethren Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher and a song leader. She later attended services at Five Forks Brethren in Christ Church, Waynesboro.
She is survived by one daughter, Dorine K. Angle of Chambersburg; three sons, Jacob F. Socks III, Samuel W. Socks and Terry W. Socks, all of Waynesboro; one sister, Louise Kiser of State Line, Pa.; one brother, Amos Keefer of Greencastle, Pa.; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; nieces; and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Patricia A. Socks; one son, Gerald L. Socks; two sisters, Mabel Bingaman and Mary McFadden; and two brothers, Chester Keefer and Merle Keefer; and one granddaughter.
Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro. Pastor Wilbur F. Besecker will officiate. Burial will follow in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Jane McKinsey Smith, 86, of View Street, Hagerstown, Md., died Saturday, June 24, 2006, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Sept. 3, 1919, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Hirman Maurice and Blanche Belle Wolfe McKinsey.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William W. Smith, in 1992.
She was a member of Christ's Reformed Church United Church of Christ.
She is survived by a daughter, Carol S. Long of Ellicott City, Md.; a sister, Louise B. McKinsey of Hagerstown; two brothers, Roland McKinsey of Hagerstown and Jack McKinsey of Boonsboro; two grandchildren, Elizabeth J. Miller and Bradley R. Long, both of Ellicott City; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Julia M. Wiles.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home. The Rev. Don R. Stevenson will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.

Owen C. Henry, 96

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Owen C. Henry, 96, 2876 Henry Road, died Sunday, June 25, 2006, at his home.
Born Nov. 22, 1909, in New Franklin, Pa., he was the son of the late Benjamin S. and Naomi Fortna Henry.
His wife, Mary L. Henry, died Feb. 9, 1993.
He was a member of the Fayetteville Otterbein United Methodist Church, where he was a certified lay speaker, Sunday school superintendent and lay delegate to Conference for many years.
He operated Owen C. Henry Orchards.
He is survived by one granddaughter, Sherry Smith of Chambersburg; one grandson, Doug Walter of Chambersburg; and one great-grandson.
Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Robert G. Sellers Funeral Home. Pastor Tom L. Willis will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be Thursday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Katherine Chidsey Strouse, 97, of Martinsburg, died Sunday, June 25, 2006, at City Hospital.
Born July 15, 1908, in Colmar, Pa., she was the daughter of the late George Henry and Kate Chidsey Strouse.
She is survived by Annie Smith, friend and caregiver, with whom she lived.
Services and burial will be in Norwich, Conn.

DRY RUN, Pa. - Kenneth A. "Ken" Alexander, 85, of Dry Run, formerly of Mechanicsburg, Pa., died Sunday, June 25, 2006, at the Golden Gray Assisted Living Home.
Born March 20, 1921, in Lancaster County, Pa., he was the son of the late Benjamin E. and Anna L. Gochenaur Alexander.
He was a graduate of Millersville High School.
He worked as a carpenter in Harrisburg, Pa., for 50 years.
He was a member of the Dry Run Church of the Brethren.
He is survived by one son, Kenneth Alexander; and two brothers, Clay and Cleon.
Services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Agett-Geisel Funeral Home, Dry Run. The Rev. Paul Shearer and the Rev. Tim Vaughn will officiate. Burial will follow in Upper Path Valley Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Wednesday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Born Oct. 14, 1959, in Santurce, Puerto Rico, he was the son of the late Luis A. Canino and Carmen Santana.
He is survived by three daughters, Megan N. Canino, Serena R. Canino and Monique T. Canino; one son, Edwin A. Canino; two sisters, Waleska I. Canino and Rita E. Perez; two brothers, Luis A. Canino and Carlos A. Canino; one grandchild; nieces; and nephews.
Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Martinsburg. Chaplain John B. Waidande and Chaplain Doug Knupp will officiate. Burial will be private.

FALLING WATERS, W.Va. - Donna Irene Pifer, 62, of Falling Waters, died Sunday, June 25, 2006, at City Hospital in Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born July 2, 1943, in Trenton, N.J., she was the daughter of the late William and Margaret Jones Breining.
She was a bookkeeper with A Step-by-Step Home Inspector, Lawrence Pifer, owner.
She was a member of Bedington United Methodist Church.
She was a member of various women's clubs.
She is survived by her husband, Lawrence E. Pifer Sr.; one daughter, Christine R. Pifer of Martinsburg; two sons, Wayne W. Pifer of Morgantown, W.Va., and Lawrence E. Pifer Jr. of Edinburg, Va.; two sisters; nine brothers; and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Jerry Breining and Richard Breining.
Services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Bedington United Methodist Church. The Revs. Robert Barnes and Walter Bowers will officiate. Burial will be in Falling Waters Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Spring Mills, W.Va.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Martinsburg.

Paul Edward Myers, 36, of 436 E. Washington St., Hagerstown, died Monday, June 26, 2006, at University of Maryland Hospital in Baltimore.
Born April 30, 1970, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Maurice E. and Linda Lee Bussard Myers.
He was employed with Citigroup.
He was a member of the New Life Metropolitan Community Church in Hagerstown, the Antietam Church of God and the Metropolitan Community Church of the Spirit. He was interim musical director of the Metropolitan Community Church of the Spirit and former musical director at the New Life Metropolitan Community Church.
He is survived by his partner, Robert Ruiz of Hagerstown; one sister, Lisa Eby of Tilghmanton, Md.; four brothers, Patrick Myers, David Myers, Scott E. Myers and Chris Myers, all of Hagerstown; an aunt, Phyllis Pierce of Antietam Furnace, who helped raise him; nieces; and nephews.
Memorial services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Burnside First Church of God in Sharpsburg. The Rev. Ernest Witmer, the Rev. Duane Williams and the Rev. Eva O'Diam will officiate. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
There will be no viewing.

James M. Danner Sr., 75

STATE LINE, Pa. - James "Jim" M. Danner Sr., 75, of State Line, Pa., beloved husband, cherished father and honored grandfather, departed this life on June 26, 2006, at his home.
Born Dec. 20, 1930, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Wilbert A. and Achsa M. Moffett Danner.
James worked in the construction industry for 39 years before retiring in 1992.
He was a member of First Christian Church of Hagerstown, a Christian youth leader, Scout leader, Order of the Arrow Brotherhood, Marine sergeant, mentor and friend to many in his community, workplace and family.
He is survived by his wife, Clara Barnhart Danner; loving children, James Jr. and Loretta Danner, Clara Catherine and Thomas Winters, and Charles and Lara Danner; nine grandchildren, Laura Winters McLaughlin, Charles Danner Jr., James Danner III, Achsa Danner Cress, Joseph Danner, Joshua Danner, Jeremy Danner, Jeremy Watson and Michael Winters; two great-grandchildren, Faith Gloria Cress and Eva Catherine McLaughlin; one sister, Frances Keadle; and one brother, Roger Danner.
In addition to his parents, he also was preceded in death by one brother, William Danner.
The family will receive friends at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, on Friday, June 30, 2006, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., with a memorial service to begin at 8 p.m. with the Rev. G. David Shreeves, Lay Pastor Jerry Norris and Lay Pastoral Care Giver Cal Scholl officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a charity of one's choice.
