Frederick man faces drug charges
FREDERICK, Md. - A Frederick man was charged with possession of crack cocaine and other crimes Friday after a traffic stop in the area of Adventure Avenue, the Frederick County Sheriff's Office said.
A K-9 unit responded to the scene. Officers found suspected crack cocaine and suspected marijuana, deputies alleged in a news release.
Warren Nixon Jr., 23, also was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of crack cocaine with the intent to distribute and possession of drug paraphernalia, deputies said.
Fire damages apartment building
FREDERICK, Md. - A fire caused about $10,000 in damage Friday morning to an apartment building on Key Parkway, but no one was injured in the blaze, the Maryland State Fire Marshal said.
Firefighters responded to Hickory Hill Apartments, 1467 Key Parkway, at 2:41 a.m., the fire marshal said in a news release.
About 30 firefighters spent 25 minutes getting the flames under control.
A resident of the building called in the fire, which started in a second-story front, interior window and was probably started by improperly discarded smoking material, the fire marshal said.
Complaints lead to drug charges
FREDERICK, Md. - Complaints about a man trying to sell Vicodin painkiller around the 300 block of North Market Street led to an arrest Thursday, Frederick Police said.
Police said in a news release that several people told officers that a man had solicited them. An undercover officer went to the area and bought pills from the man, police said.
Robert Paul Johnson, 22, of 201 Madison St., No. 72, Frederick, was charged with possession and distribution of a controlled dangerous substance.
Frederick man charged with burglary
FREDERICK, Md. - A man was arrested after he was seen Thursday night running with cash register drawers, police said.
Frederick Police said Officer Joseph Wheeler responded to a commercial alarm call at Bill Watson's Original Carryout and Golden Mile Liquors, both at 50 N. McCain Drive, at about 11:45 p.m.
Police said a man ran from the businesses and ignored Wheeler's order to stop. Wheeler ran after the man.
David Owen Kennelly, 24, of Frederick, was charged with two counts each of second- and fourth-degree burglary and two counts of destruction of property. He also was charged with one count of theft.
Police alleged that Kennelly broke into both businesses, setting off their alarms, and possessed property stolen from Golden Mile Liquors.
He was treated for minor injuries he sustained during the Golden Mile Liquors break-in, police said.
