Juliana P. Brucksch, a May graduate of the University of Maryland, College Park, has been accepted and will attend the Doctor of Pharmacy program at the University of Maryland Pharmacy School in Baltimore this fall.

Juliana, the daughter of John and Hilkka Brucksch of Smithsburg and the grand-daughter of Jorma Keto of Greencastle, Pa., graduated with a 3.9 grade-point average on a 4.0 scale and earned a bachelor of science degree in biology and a minor in community and public health.

During her undergraduate years, Juliana participated in the College Park Scholars Program, a living-learning program for academically talented freshmen and sophomores and earned a scholar's citation in life sciences. She earned dean's list recognition in all eight semesters attended and was selected for the Delta Epsilon Mu prehealth professional fraternity and served on the fraternity's executive board. Additionally, she served as a laboratory assistant in the college's biochemistry department.

A 2004 graduate of Smithsburg High, Juliana served during her senior year as a student intern with the National Cancer Institute at Fort Detrick in Frederick, Md. The internship inspired and helped to prepare her for a future in the field of pharmacy.

AMHERST, Mass. - Katherine A. Roza, daughter of Eli J. Roza and Susan E. Roza of Hagerstown, graduated May 25 from Amherst College.

Roza, who majored in English, received a bachelor of arts degree, cum laude.

She is a graduate of St. James School.

ALBANY, N.Y. - Bryan Fagan of Frederick, Md., has been named to the dean's list for the spring semester at the University at Albany-SUNY.

STAUNTON, Va. - Chrystal Elizabeth Klein of Hagerstown has been named to the dean's list for the spring semester at Mary Baldwin College.

GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Gregory Seldon of Frederick, Md., completed requirements for a bachelors degree from Gettysburg College on May 18. He majored in management.

CLEMSON, S.C. - Matthew R. Holtzman, of Smithsburg, graduated from Clemson University with a bachelor of arts degree in architecture and a minor in entrepreneurship, with cum laude honors.

The spring commencement ceremony was May 9 at the Littlejohn Coliseum on the campus.

Matthew will attend Georgia Tech in the fall, where he will pursue a master's degree in architecture.

Matthew is a 2004 Smithsburg High School graduate.

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Daniel Strickler Mackey of Chambersburg, Pa., has been named to the dean's list for the spring semester at Wofford College.

EMMITSBURG, Md. - Kyle R. Kane from Boonsboro has been named to the dean's list for the spring semester at Mount St. Mary's College.

Kyle, a freshman, achieved dean's list status by maintaining at least a 3.4 grade-point average.

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Anne Spencer of Frederick, Md., has achieved Distinguished Honors for the spring semester at Mercersburg Academy.

Patrick Brugh, son of Joe and Nancy Brugh, formerly of Hagerstown,

received his master of arts degree in Germanic languages from

Washington University in St. Louis.

He is pursuing his Ph.D.

He graduated from University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia in 2005 and

taught as a Fulbright scholar for a year in Bamberg, Germany.

He is the grandson of Frederick and Mary Jane Shank of Hagerstown, as well as the grandson of Don and the late Lenore Brugh, formerly of Hagerstown.

He is the great nephew of Bill and Peg Kershner of Greencastle, Pa.

Jill Steinla of Maugansville received the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants Outstanding Senior Award, presented to a graduating senior who has completed at least 12 semester hours of credit in accounting.

She is the daughter of John and Cheryl Steinla.

She is a May graduate of Shippensburg University with a bachelor’s degree in accounting.

Laura Elizabeth Smyth, formerly of Hagerstown, has recently become a member of the Phi Sigma Theta National Honor Society at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville.

Omar is the daughter of Fahima Mohamed.

She received a bachelor of arts degree in growth and structure of cities.

She is a Frederick High School graduate.

PHILADELPHIA — Jonathan Tyler Cannon of Hagerstown graduated cum laude with a bachelor of science degree in pharmaceutical marketing and management from University of the Sciences in Philadelphia May 21.

He was a member of Phi Kappa Psi and the Pharmaceutical Marketing and Management Club.

He is the son of Wayne and Cheryl Cannon.

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. — Area students have been named to the dean’s list at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in recognition of their academic achievements.

Juliet Dankwa, of Hagerstown, a junior majoring in criminal justice, earned a 4.0.
