Carl F. Dehart, 75

OCT. 17, 1933-OCT. 31, 2008

FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - Carl F. Dehart, 75, of 1000 Black Gap Rd., died Friday Oct. 31, 2008 in Chambersburg Hospital.

Born Oct. 17, 1933, in Fayetteville, he was a son of the late Grover and Hazel Mull Dehart.

He served with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.

He retired in 2004 after serving with the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources for 11 years.

He was a member of the South Mountain Fish and Game Club and a member of Burt J. Asper Post 46 American Legion in Chambersburg, Pa.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce L. Brookens Dehart, whom he married July 3, 1954; one daughter, Carol D. Harbaugh of Chambersburg; one son, Jeffrey L. Dehart of Fayetteville; four sisters, Charlotte Gilbert of Fayetteville, Evelyn Knable of Marion, Pa., Shirley Tolbert of Fayetteville, and Julie Acker of Bridgeville, Del.; four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by one sister and three brothers.

Services will be Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg. The Rev. Dennis Chisholm will officiate. Burial with military honors by members of the Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW will follow at Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Wendi C. Long, 28

OCT. 8, 1980-NOV. 1, 2008

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Wendi Cassell Long, 28, of Martinsburg, passed away peacefully, on Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008, at City Hospital in Martinsburg after a brief illness.

Born, Oct. 8, 1980, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of Terry L. and Joyce A. (Mullinix) McClanathan of Smithsburg.

Wendi was a 1999 graduate of Smithsburg High School and had attended the Award Beauty School in Hagerstown.

Wendi was a Methodist by faith.

She had worked as a waitress at several area restaurants.

In addition to her parents, she also is survived by her husband, William W. Long; one brother, James E. McClanathan of Smithsburg; one sister, Staci A. McClanathan of Johnson City, Tenn.; maternal grandmother, Shirley Mullinix of Damascus, Md.; paternal grandmother, Lenora McClanathan of Martinsburg and many loving family members and friends.

At her request there will be no visitation.

A private memorial service will be conducted at the convenience of the family.

Annajean B. McKnight, 65

DEC. 13, 1942-NOV. 1, 2008

EVERETT, Pa. - Annajean Bitner McKnight, 65, of Lutzville Road, died Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Cumberland, Md.

Born Dec. 13, 1942, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Van Homer and Eldeletta Mae Noel Boden.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Shirley "Butch" Bitner.

She was a 1960 graduate of South Hagerstown High School.

She retired in 2005 from Washington County Government as a Risk Manager Coordinator.

She was a member of the National Association of Insurance Women and the Tri-State Safety Association and Halfway Volunteer Fire Co.; and volunteered at Washington County Emergency Operation Center.

She was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church.

She is survived by her second husband, Curtis L. McKnight, whom she married Oct. 26, 1998; two stepdaughters, Margie Gilchrist of DuBois, Pa., and Missy Franklin of North Cambria, Pa.; two stepsons, Daniel McKnight of Vilonia, Ariz., and Curtis McKnight III of Roaring Spring, Pa.; two brothers, Denny Boden and Charles Boden, both of Hagerstown; seven stepgrandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Richard H. Boden.

Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, Hancock. The Rev. Anne O. Weatherholt will officiate. Burial will be at Fairview Christian Cemetery, Artemas, Pa.

The family will receive friends Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to one's local Humane Society.


Gladys V. Payne, 86

SEPT. 6, 1922-NOV. 1, 2008

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Gladys Virginia Payne, 86, of Berkeley Springs, died Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008, at Morgan County War Memorial Hospital.

Born Sept. 6, 1922, she was the daughter of the late William Edward and Myrtle Beulah Roach Miller.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin E. Payne, in 2002.

She attended Mount Garfield School.

She retired from London Fog Manufacturing, Hancock, in 1978.

She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church where she served as a former Sunday School teacher and a former Youth Fellowship Leader. She was a member of the ladies society of the church.

She is survived by one son, Marvin R. Payne of Berkeley Springs; two sisters, Betty Williams of Berkeley Springs and Nina Miller of Cumberland; three grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Geraldine Ambrose, Flossie Mae Proctor and Minnie Vidas; and eight brothers, Herbert H. Miller, David Miller, Philip Miller, Robert Miller, Henry Miller, Hugh Miller, Clem Miller and William Miller.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, Berkeley Springs. Pastor Dan Wright will officiate. Burial will be in Spohrs Crossroads Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. The funeral home will be open from noon to 9 p.m. on Monday.

Billy Lee Black, 47

JUNE 14, 1961-OCT. 31, 2008

Billy Lee Black, 47, of 526 West Church Street, Hagerstown, died Friday, Oct. 31, 2008, in Hagerstown.

Born June 14, 1961 in Germany, he was the son of Pauline Wilson Black of Hagerstown and the late Earl William Black.

He was employed with Asplundh Tree Experts for 30 years.

He was a member of the Teamsters Union.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Andrea Black; two daughters, Danielle Black at home and Angie Smith of Funkstown; one son, Justin Black at home; one sister Pamela Robison of Hagerstown; and one brother, Wesley Black of Chewsville.

Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Boulevard, Hagerstown. Pastor Rodney K. Rhodes will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Randall L. Knight, 57

NOV. 9, 1950-OCT. 31, 2008

KNOXVILLE, Md. - Randall Lee "Randy" Knight, age 57, of Knoxville, Md., died Friday, Oct. 31, 2008, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Nov. 9, 1950, in Hagerstown, he was a son of Eva Pierce Knight of Sharpsburg, and the late Arthur Knight.

He was a 1968 graduate of Boonsboro High School.

He was a retired employee of Eastalco Aluminum Co. in Buckeystown, Md.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Kaye V. Drenner Knight, whom he married March 31, 1998; one daughter, Lisa Trovinger of Hagerstown; one son, Randall L. Knight Jr. of Sharpsburg; two sisters, Karen Knight-Miner of Boonsboro and Gina Rubeck of Ridgely, W.Va.; and one granddaughter.

Graveside services will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Samples Manor Cemetery near Sharpsburg. The Rev. Jan Wade will officiate.

There will be no viewing or visitation.

Stephen D. Manley, 21

SEPT. 20, 1987-OCT. 29, 2008

Stephen Daniel Manley, born Sept. 20, 1987, in Albany, N.Y., died from injuries sustained in a car crash, Oct. 29, 2008. He is survived by his mother, Diane Manley from Hagerstown, brother Jacob Manley from Syracuse, N.Y., his grandparents Donald and Marion Manley from Rutland, Vt., his aunt and uncle Linda and Joseph Powell from Martinsburg, W.Va., Karen Manley from Rutland, Mark and Wendy Manley from Knoxville, James Manley from West Rutland, Vt., Valerie and Michael Murray from North Kingston, R.I., Peter and Peg Manley from Fair Haven, Vt., Elaine Turner from Martinsburg, his girlfriend Lindsey Britner and numerous cousins and friends.

He was a graduate of Williamsport High School in Williamsport. He was a member of the SophistiCats and appeared as Sarge in "Seussical," the Beast in "Beauty and the Beast," and most recently with the Potomac Playmakers in "Godspell." Based on his musical achievements, a special thank you is extended to Ruth Ridenour for her dedication and time in helping to develop a young musical talent. He was a talented self-taught guitarist and enjoyed acting and singing. He had a wonderful love of music. He was amazing with children and loved working and interacting with them. He was charismatic, had an infectious smile and loved to laugh. His kindness and compassion overflowed to others. He had a soft heart and a beautiful soul. He will be sadly missed by his large family and countless friends.

A celebration of life will be held at the Osborne Funeral Home in Williamsport, Md., on Nov. 3, 2008 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Dean Miller officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home on Monday.
