Irene D. Hultzapple, 90

OCT. 28, 1918-NOV. 14, 2008 CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Irene D. Hultzapple, 90, of Menno Haven, and formerly of 2424 Hultzapple Drive, died Friday, Nov. 14, 2008, at the nursing home. Born Oct. 28, 1918, in Doylesburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Harry G. and Jennie Shearer Doyle. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy S. Hultzapple, in 2003. They were married June 19, 1948. She graduated from high school in Path Valley, Pa. She had been employed for 13 years by Penn Hall Girls' Preparatory School. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Chambersburg, where she was active with Willing Workers Sunday School Class and United Methodist Women. She is survived by three sons, Dennis L. Hultzapple of York Haven, Pa., Ted D. Hultzapple of Farmington, N.Y., and Mark R. Hultzapple of Chambersburg; one brother, J. Paul Doyle of Greencastle, Pa.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth Doyle and E. Frederick Doyle. Services will be Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg. The Rev. Rick Noll will officiate. Burial will follow in Norland Cemetery, Chambersburg. Born Aug. 23, 1929, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Mary Nicholson Stevenson. She is survived by one son, Richard Nokes, and wife of Hagerstown; two brothers, Thomas Stevenson Sr., and wife of Hagerstown, and James A. MAY 21, 1932-NOV. 14, 2008 Patricia Joan Statler, 76, of 13833 Paradise Church Road in Hagerstown, died Friday, Nov. 14, 2008, at Washington County Hospital. Born May 21, 1932, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Harry B. Martin and Ruth E. Barnes Martin. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold R. Statler, in 1984. She was a 1950 graduate of Hagerstown High School. She was employed in the insurance industry for 45 years, beginning with Moss Insurance Agency and later with W. Paul Settles Insurance, and last retired from Wright Gardner Insurance in 1998. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. She was a charter member of Cumberland Valley Insurance Women, and a member of Potomac Fish and Game Club Ladies Auxiliary and AARP. She is survived by three sisters, Helen L. Mellott and D. Lorraine Troxell, both of Williamsport, and Georganna Grossnickel of Hagerstown; one brother, Ralph B. Martin of Hagerstown; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Virginia Schnurr and Ruth R. Weaver; and two brothers, Harry C. Martin and Marvin R. Martin. Services will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Douglas A. Born Dec. 13, 1952, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of Wayne Lynn Wentz and Irene Elizabeth Lum Wentz of Hagerstown. She was a 1969 graduate of North Hagerstown High School. She was employed by Avalon Manor/N.M.S. Healthcare of Hagerstown for 25 years. In addition to her parents, she is survived by two sisters, Margaret I. Nyce of Aztec, N.M., and Darlene E. Born Oct. 27, 1924, in St. Thomas, Pa., she was the daughter of the late John J. and Margaret P. Cline Heckman. She was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, James W. "Wayne" Mahon, in 1997. She earlier worked at the former Swift and Co., and Knouse Foods in Chambersburg. She was a member of St. James United Brethren Church. She is survived by two daughters, Sharon E. Sanderford and Sandra L. Cummings, both of Fayetteville, Pa.; one son, Robert E. Shank of Lurgan, Pa.; two sisters, Grace Furry of Fayetteville, Pa., and Carol Shank of Shippensburg, Pa.; one brother, Sam Heckman of Chambersburg; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and 12 nieces and nephews. OCT. 17, 1913-NOV. 13, 2008 Wyand Grove "Moody" Rohrer, 95, of 19800 Tranquility Circle in Hagerstown, died Thursday, Nov. 13, 2008, at Ravenwood Lutheran Village in Hagerstown. Born Oct. 17, 1913, in Gapland, Md., he was the son of the late Jacob Moody and Charlotte Genevieve Grove Rohrer. He had been employed for 25 years by Town and Country Foodland in Hagerstown. He was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, where he had been a board member, church treasurer and sang on the choir. He was a member of Keedysville Ruritan Club and Rohrersville Band. He is survived by his wife, Martha Virginia Peyton Rohrer, whom he married April 27, 1940; three nieces; one nephew; one great-niece; one great-great-niece; and one great-great-nephew. He was preceded in death by one brother, D. Arthur Rohrer; and three sisters in their youth, Barbara E.M. Rohrer, Julia G. Rohrer and Katherine M. Rohrer. Ann M. Haynes, 89

JAN. 16, 1919-NOV. 2, 2008 Brewster, Mass. - Ann M. Haynes, 89, of Brewster, Mass., and formerly of Hagerstown, Md., passed away Sunday, Nov. 2, 2008, at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis, Mass., with her family by her side. Born Jan. 16, 1919, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Laura Agnes and Samuel O. Matthews Sr. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Clarke T. Haynes; one sister, Elizabeth Dudley; and two brothers, Samuel Matthews Jr. and Henry Matthews. Ann was a lifelong member of First Christian Church in Hagerstown, and a member of the Ever Ready Class and the Over The Hill Gang. She was active for many years in the Washington County Hospital Auxiliary and was a former house parent for the WCARC. She was a 1936 graduate of Hagerstown High School. All who knew her loved her for her kindness, generosity and quick smile. She will be greatly missed and remembered as a true friend, Mom, Nan and "Dolly." She is survived by one brother, Robert Matthews of Frederick, Md.; one son David Haynes Sr. of Frederick; one daughter and son-in-law, Laurie and Brad Perry of Brewster; four grandchildren, David Haynes Jr. of Dallas, Ga., Ryan Gladhill of Hagerstown, and Chelsey and Nicholas Perry of Brewster; one great-granddaughter, Jade Haynes of Dallas, nieces and nephews; and many friends. OCT. 13, 1932-NOV. 14, 2008 FALLING WATERS, W.Va. - Paul Blaine Marquiss, 76, of Falling Waters, died Friday, Nov. 14, 2008, at his home. Born Oct. 13, 1932, in LaPlace, Ill., he was the son of the late Earl Eugene Marquiss Sr. and Blanche Lucille Wine Marquiss. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Deloris Marie Smith Marquiss, in 1988. He was a 1950 graduate of Hagerstown (Md.) High School. He retired as a chief dispatcher from CSX Railroad in Hagerstown. He previously owned M&M Oil Co. in Hagerstown, and he most recently worked part time at Murray's Service Center in Williamsport. He was a member of Church of God in Hagerstown at 919 Corbett St., where he taught Sunday school. Survivors include his wife of 18 years, Nancy Sue Boles Proctor Marquiss of Falling Waters; five daughters, Debra K. Banas and Beth Ann Kelley, both of Hagerstown, Terri L. Harshman of Clear Spring, Paula J. Platz of Williamsport and Karen M. Marquiss of Greencastle, Pa.; three sons, Brian L. Marquiss and Kevin S. Marquiss, both of Hagerstown, and Timothy A. Born July 28, 1928, in Waynesboro, Pa., she was the daughter of the late George and Agnes Richards Fuss. She was preceded in death by her husband, William R. Courtney. She retired from Crown Cork and Seal in 1993. She was a member of Providence Bible Church. She is survived by two daughters, Melissa C. Jones and Christine Courtney, both of Hedgesville; four sisters, Shirley Carter of Shepherdstown, W.Va., Margie Braswell of Martinsburg, W.Va., Carol Rankin of Inwood, W.Va., and Linda Fuss of Hedgesville; three brothers, Richard Fuss, Paul Fuss and Bob Fuss, all of Hedgesville; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Linda Lou Troia, 56

SEPT. 22, 1952-NOV. 14, 2008 MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Linda Lou Troia, 56, of 13481 Karper Road, died Friday, Nov. 14, 2008, at 8:30 a.m. at her home following a long four-year battle with cancer. Born Sept. 22, 1952, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of Charles and Myrtle Commer Gordon of Clear Spring. Linda was a 1970 graduate of Clear Spring High School. For 24 years, she was the secretary for Troia's Carpentry of Mercersburg. She also was employed by Washington County Hospital in the laundry and kitchen departments from 2000 to 2004. She also had her own cleaning company. Linda was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Chambersburg second ward, for 27 years. It is sad to see Linda go and the family will miss her dearly and they loved her very much. She is in a better place. Linda loved traveling, shopping, collecting home interior, Longaberger baskets, spending time with family and friends, and bird watching. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband of 28 years, Dennis O. Troia; two sons, James (husband of daughter in law Winter) Troia of Harrisonville, Pa., and John Troia of Charles Town, W.Va.; three daughters, Tammy Grove, Denise Troia, and Wendy Herold, all of Hagerstown, Md.; four grandsons, AJ Goshorn, Jonathon Goshorn, Shawn Goshorn and Corbin Troia; and one granddaughter, Jozalyn Troia. JULY 4, 1926-NOV. 13, 2008 WILLIAMSPORT - Robert Leroy (Bobby) Forrest, 82, of 16810 Tammany Manor Road, died Thursday, Nov. 13, 2008, at the Palliative Care Unit at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Martinsburg, W.Va. Born July 4, 1926, in Cavetown, he was the son of the late Margie Swope Forrest and Phillip R. Forrest Sr. Bob attended Smithsburg schools and Hagerstown Business College. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy. Bob was employed by Bester & Long and Homewood Retirement, retired from Danzer Metal Works and delivered prescriptions for Russo's Pharmacy until his illness in 2008. He was a member of Harmony United Methodist Church in Falling Waters, W.Va. He was a life member of the Antietam Fire Company, and a member of Morris Frock American Legion Post 42 and AARP. Bob is survived by his wife of 59 years, Peggy Eyler Forrest; three daughters, Jan A. Rudisill, Cheryl D. Stoddard and husband, Ray, and Robin J. Mitchell and husband, Jim, all of Hagerstown; one son, Terry L. Forrest and wife, Linda, of Falling Waters, W.Va.; three sisters, Olive Kline of Myersville, Md., Ida Mae Shoop of Hagerstown and Patsy Forrest of Prescott, Ariz.; two brothers, Phillip R. Forrest Jr. and Franklin R. Born March 9, 1944, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Homer Judge Cavanaugh Jr. and Lois Virginia Hartle Cavanaugh. He graduated from Smithsburg High School, class of 1962. He served in the U.S. Navy. He was previously employed by the Pangborn Corporation for 20 years, and presently was employed by SAIC of Fort Detrick for the last 20 years. He was a member of Beaver Creek Christian Church, and served as a deacon. He was a member of Funkstown American Legion Post 211 and a former member of the Boonsboro Bass Club. He is survived by his wife, Janet M. Lynch Cavanaugh, whom he married March 13, 1992; one daughter, Kerry L. Stenger and husband, Eric K., of Martinsburg, W.Va.; one son, Craig A. JAN. 9, 1912-NOV. 13, 2008 BOONSBORO - Leontine Thomas Doyle, 96, of 8507 Mapleville Road in Boonsboro, died Thursday, Nov. 13, 2008, at Fahrney-Keedy Home near Boonsboro. Born Jan. 9, 1912, in Whitney, Neb., she was the daughter of the late Frank P. and Olive Eugenia Scofield Thomas. Leontine was preceded in death by her husband, Truman Leroy Doyle, on Dec. 7, 2005. She had formerly taught school in Nebraska, then retired after 24 years with the Washington County Board of Education at Boonsboro Elementary School. Leontine was a member of Christ Reformed Church in Hagerstown and formerly with Trinity Reformed United Church of Christ in Boonsboro. She was a member of Washington County Retired Teachers Association, Washington County Ornithological Society, Women's Club and Crossroads Garden Club. Leontine is survived by two daughters, Zada K. Yumlu and husband, Salih V., of Hagerstown, and Jane Doyle Cogswell and husband, Arthur E., of Hanover, Md.; six grandchildren, Scott E. Stouffer, Kent E. Stouffer, Erin K. Botkin, Ingrid K. Retherford, Leif Doyle Cogswell and Angela M. Cogswell; four stepgrandchildren, Paul S. Yumlu, Suzan Z. Kaylor, Christopher K.V. Yumlu and Beth A.K. Yumlu; 17 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one sister, Helen LaRue Norman; and two brothers, Eugene Thomas and Marion E. Thomas. Funeral services will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, Boonsboro. The Revs. Don R. Stevenson and Rebecca Hoover will officiate. Burial will be in Boonsboro Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Nature Conservancy, Maryland-D.C.
