Marie L. Thompson
QUINCY, Pa. - Marie L. Hahn Thompson, 94, of Quincy United Methodist Home, and formerly of 213 N. Potomac St., Waynesboro, Pa., died Monday, July 29, 2002, at the home.
Born Nov. 12, 1907, in Smithsburg, she was the daughter of the late George C. and Carrie Belle Ott Hahn.
Her first husband, Roy A. Fuss, died in February 1947. Her second husband, Charles L. Thompson, died April 7, 1971.
She attended Smithsburg schools.
She was employed at Waynesboro Knitting Mill as a folder. Prior to retiring in the mid-1960s, she was a polisher at Waynesboro Shoe Factory.
She was a member of Blue Mountain Church of God, the Ladies Bible Class and Women Christian Service Council. She attended Wayne Heights Brethren Church.
She is survived by four sisters, Mildred Wilhide, Naomi Shifflette and twins, Kathleen Minnick and Ilene Barkdoll, all of Smithsburg; two brothers, William Hahn of Smithsburg, and Eugene Hahn of Waynesboro; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Hilda I. Beam; and one brother, Norvin Hahn.
Services will be Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro. The Rev. Harold W. Walton will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Kathaleen F. Brondoli
WAYNESBORO, Va. - Kathaleen F. Brondoli, 82, formerly of 153 Valley Road, died Monday, July 22, 2002, at Augusta Nursing Rehabilitation Center.
Born Jan. 4, 1920, in Hagers-town, she was the daughter of the late George Rowland and Corinne Charles Blume.
Her husband, Eugene P. Brondoli, died in 1991.
She was a 1937 graduate of Hagerstown High School and Columbia Business College.
She worked as an executive secretary and bookkeeper in Frederick, Md., Wilkes-Barre, Pa., and Toledo, Ohio.
She was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church.
She volunteered for organizations in Waynesboro and served on the board of the United Church Nursery.
She is survived by one son, Michael P. Brondoli of Durham, N.C.; one daughter, Karen B. Mowen of Waynesboro; one sister, Sara J. Rowe of Smithsburg; and five grandchildren.
Services were held at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church on July 25. The Rev. Robert J. Humphrey officiated. Entombment was in Augusta Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Roy B. Nichols
Roy B. Nichols, 66, of West Baltimore Street, Hagerstown, died Sunday, July 28, 2002, at his home.
Born June 20, 1936, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Elmer Samuel and Grace Mowen Nichols.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.
He is survived by three sisters, Linda L. Newlin and M. Loretta Rhyne, both of Hagerstown, and Susan M. Obitts of Williamsport; and two brothers, Harold E. Nichols of Mercersburg, Pa., and John M. Nichols of Hagerstown.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Angle and Doris Weller; and two brothers, Robert Nicholas and Elmer S. Nichols Jr.
Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown, at the convenience of the family.
Sally A. Reed
Sally A. Reed, 68, of Hagerstown, died Sunday, July 28, 2002, at Washington County Hospital.
Born April 1, 1934, in Altoona, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Stewart Dean and Mary Helen Pritchett Shaver.
She was a 1952 graduate of Altoona High School.
She retired from General Nutrition Center in Valley Mall, where she was store manager for 16 years.
She was a member of Grace Brethren Church in Hagerstown.
She was a member of National AARP.
She is survived by her husband, Wayne E. Reed; one daughter, Linda M. French of Hagerstown; one son, W. Allen Reed of Hagerstown; and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Doris Allen; and two brothers, Stewart D. Shaver Jr. and Robert Shaver.
Services will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Dean P. Pryor will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Gardens, Hagerstown.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 6 t 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Roy L. Hess
PENSACOLA, Fla. - Roy L. "Grubby" Hess, 71, of Pensacola, and Country Club Road, Waynesboro, Pa., died Friday, July 26, 2002, in the crash of a small plane near Clear Spring.
Born June 9, 1931, in Washington Township, Pa., he was the son of the late Herman O. and Iva V. Kipe Hess.
He was a 1949 graduate of Washington Township High School. He attended Hagerstown Junior College and Penn State University.
He learned to fly at Waynesboro Airport in his teens.
He was a private pilot for more than 50 years.
His first business, Hess Marine, was expanded to encompass a motorcycle and an automobile dealership in Pensacola. He was the original Honda dealer in the Pensacola area. He founded Hess Marketing with operations in aircraft sales and finance, and radio station WVIX and later WPML-TV, in Pensacola. He was instrumental in the launching of First American Bank and First State Bank in Pensacola, which merged into the First Union/Wachovia Bank. He developed an 18,000-acre wild game farm in South Africa.
He served in the U.S. Navy as a pilot.
He served two successive terms in the Florida legislature, and was a president and a Paul Harris Fellow with the Suburban West Rotary Club. He was a supporter of the National Museum of Naval Aviation.
He is survived by three daughters, Shelly Kampe of Santa Clarita, Calif., Nina H. Campbell and Sharon H. Herrick, both of Pensacola; one son, Gregory Hess of Pensacola; two sisters, Lauretta H. Pollock of Waynesboro, and Lois Heintzelman of Columbia, Md.; two brothers, Ralph Hess of Waynesboro, and Dr. Carroll V. Hess of Manhattan, Kan.; nine grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Scott and Eva Rowe; six brothers, the Rev. Robert W. Hess, Kenneth H. Hess, Hobart Hess, Joseph Hess, Ernest Hess and Raymond Hess.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Grace Baptist Church, Waynesboro. Bishop H. Frank Kipe will officiate. Burial will be in Ringgold Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday at 10 a.m. at the church.
There will be no public viewing.

CLEARBROOK, Va. - Leisa Kay Nixon, 34, of Clearbrook, died Friday, July 26, 2002, at the University of Virginia Hospital at Charlottesville.
Born April 25, 1968, in Carrollton, Ga., she was the daughter of Clifford J. Nixon of Clearbrook, and the late Alice L. Adams Nixon.
Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at South Berkeley Chapel, Inwood, W.Va. The Revs. Oscar Motilal and Wayne Bryant will officiate. Burial will be in Gerrardstown Presbyterian Cemetery.

Owen E. Keller
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Owen E. Keller, 87, of 90 D. Menno Village, Menno Haven Nursing Home, died Saturday, July 27, 2002, at the nursing home.
Born in Hustontown, Pa., he was the son of the late Harry and Laura Brant Keller.
Graveside services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Norland Cemetery, Chambersburg. The Rev. Nelson Martin will officiate.
Arrangements are by the Cremation Society of Pennsylvania.

QUINCY, Pa. - Helen Elizabeth Stoner, 91, of Quincy United Methodist Home, died Sunday, July 28, 2002, at the home.
Born Sept. 27, 1910, in Chambersburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Harry L. and Blanche M. Henry Downey.
Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg. The Rev. Paul B. Baker will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Chambersburg.

Born Jan. 22, 1927, in Charles Town, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Harry and Dorcas R. McAtee Zinn.

Born Dec. 19, 1909, in Berkeley County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late John and Fannie B. Jordan Robinson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church. The Rev. John V. DiBacco Jr. will be celebrant. Interment prayers will be said in Rosedale Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 6 to 9 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. A vigil service will be held at 8 p.m.

INWOOD, W.Va. - Louwana F. Carson, 67, of Inwood, died Sunday, July 28, 2002, at her home.
Born, Oct. 3, 1934, in Loudoun County, Va., she was the daughter of the late Carl R. and Thelma Elsea Lee.
She was a member of St. Andrew's on the Mount Episcopal Church, Harpers Ferry, W.Va.
She is survived by her husband, Josephus R. Carson; two sons, Thomas Lloyd of Hancock, Vt., and Steven Lloyd of Harpers Ferry; two daughters, Stephaine Lloyd of Martinsburg, W.Va., and Teresa DePalo of Inwood; one brother, Albert A. Lee of Berryville, Va.; three sisters, Karlin Courtney of Martinsburg, Linda Burleson of Clearbrook, Va., and E. Christy Linton of Inwood; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Desmond Lee.

Claire G. McHale
GARLAND, Texas - Claire Germaine McHale, 72, died Wednesday, July 17, 2002, in Garland.
She was born Sept. 10, 1929, in Rochester, N.H.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Joseph F. McHale.
She retired from Baylor/Garland Medical Center as a registered nurse. She worked for nine years at Washington County Hospital in Hagerstown.
She is survived by three sons, Stephen McHale, James McHale and Christopher McHale; one daughter Kathleen Nutt; brothers, Gerard Gravel and Raymond Gravel, both of Rochester; and four grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Saturday, July 20, 2002, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Richardson, Texas. Monsignor Donald Fischer was celebrant. Burial was in Restland Cemetery.
Dolores M. Gates
WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Dolores M. Sleicher Gates, 73, of 8124 Tomstown Road, died Monday, July 29, 2002, at her home.
Born May 15, 1929, in Quincy Township, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Herbert G. and Marie Mentzer Sleicher.
Her husband, John A. Gates, died Oct. 12, 1992. They were married April 21, 1956.
She was employed at Samuel Dixon State Hospital, South Mountain, Pa.; and worked for Wayne Laboratories and Letterkenny Army Deport, Chambersburg.
She served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.
She was a member of Quincy (Pa.) United Methodist Church.
She was a member of National AARP and Women's U.S. War Memorial in Arlington, Va.
She is survived by one daughter, Sue E. Gates of Carlisle, Pa.; one son, John A. Gates II of Hagers-town; two brothers, Richard H. Sleicher of Mont Alto, Pa., and Robert G. Sleicher of Waynesboro; two grandsons; nieces and nephews.
Services will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro. Pastor Shane Stauffer will officiate. Burial will be in Quincy Cemetery.

James E. Rosenberry
DRY RUN, Pa. - James E. "Rosey" Rosenberry, 42, of 21290 Goshorn Road, died Friday, July 26, 2002, at Path Valley Road in Fannett Township, Pa., as a result of a single-car accident.
Born Sept. 4, 1959, in Chambersburg, Pa., he was the son of the late Robert V. and Alberta Berrier Rosenberry.
He was a 1977 graduate of Fannett-Metal High School in Willow Hill, Pa.
He was a warehouseman at New Cumberland Army Depot in New Cumberland, Pa., with 25 years of federal service. He formerly was employed at Letterkenny Army Depot and Mechanicsburg Navy Depot.
He was a member of James W. McCartney American Legion Post 232 in Dry Run.
He is survived by his wife, Sherry A. Rowe Rosenberry, whom he married Nov. 12, 1983; two brothers, Robert C. Rosenberry and David L. Rosenberry, both of Dry Run; one niece; three nephews; and one great-niece.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Deborah K. Clouser.
Services will be today at 2 p.m. at John L. Agett Funeral Home, Dry Run. The Rev. Judy Rowles will officiate. Burial will be in Upper Path Valley Cemetery in Fannett Township.
Visitation was held at the funeral home Monday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Patsy A. Wyand
SHARPSBURG - Patsy Anne Hill Wyand, 69, of 7101 Tommytown Road, died Monday, July 29, 2002, at Washington County Hospital.
Born May 16, 1933, in Keedysville, she was the daughter of the late Jesse Samuel and Sarah Maude Gaylor Hill.
Her husband, Glenn Gordon Wyand, died April 7, 1980.
She retired from Londontown Manufacturing Co., Boonsboro.
She was a member of Mt. Vernon United Church of Christ, Keedysville.
She is survived by one daughter, Bonnie L. Ellis of Sharpsburg; two granddaughters, Jodi Ellis of Frederick, Md., and Heather Figueroa of Sharpsburg; and two great-granddaughters.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Henry Hill.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Bast Funeral Home, Boonsboro. The Rev. Delaney Catlett will officiate. Burial will be in Salem Lutheran Church Cemetery in Bakersville.

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Evelyn Jane Draper, 69, of 246 Highland Ave., died Sunday, July 28, 2002, at her home.
Born Dec. 14, 1932, in Chewsville, she was the daughter of the late Bernard and Lottie Bachetell Rohrer.
Her husband, Donald Ray Draper, died in 1984.
She retired as a nurse from Washington County Hospital.
She was a member of the Family Life Worship Center in Waynesboro.
She is survived by five sons, Gary Draper of Waynesboro, Allen Draper of Greencastle, Pa., Mark Draper of Thurmont, Md., Larry Draper of Hamburg, N.Y., and Timothy Draper of Shady Grove, Pa.; four sisters, Peggy Baer of Waynesboro, Doris Chilton of North Carolina, Vivian Weagley and Nancy Ridenour, both of Hagerstown; and six grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Jenny Rhodes and Thelma Cline; and two brothers, Nevin Rohrer and Ernest Rohrer.
Services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Donald E. Thompson Funeral Home, Clear Spring. The Rev. Clyde Hardin will officiate. Graveside services will follow at 11:30 a.m. in Green Hill Cemetery in Waynesboro.

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Lisa Marie Williams, 41, of 1069 Laurich Drive, who died Friday, July 26, 2002, at Chambersburg Hospital, was the daughter of Martha A. Polk Neil of St. Thomas, Pa.
She is survived by two sisters, Louise Appleby of Fayetteville, Pa., and Dixie Finkley of Shippensburg, Pa.
Joseph L. Renner
Joseph L. Renner, 79, of Hagerstown, died Monday, July 29, 2002, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born Feb. 14, 1923, in Poplar Bluff, Mo., he was the son of the late Harry J.W. and Lillian Deatrich Renner.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Hagerstown.
He was a member of American Legion Post 202 in Williamsport, and Elks Lodge 378 and Masons Friendship Lodge 84, both in Hagerstown.
He is survived by his wife, Jane E. Paden Renner; one daughter, Carol R. Wilkes of Hagerstown; three sisters, Ruth Woodward of Jacksonville, Fla., Jeanette Burkholder and Arlene Cornell, both of Hagerstown; two brothers, Earl D. Renner of Hagerstown and Kenneth S. Renner of Marlowe, W.Va.; and one granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.
Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel in Hagerstown. Bishop Edward Waltz will officiate. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.
Friends will be received Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. An Elks memorial service will be held at 7 p.m.
Dee M. Hughes
QUINCY, Pa. - Dee M. Johnston Hughes, 95, of Quincy United Methodist Home, and formerly of 10661 Scenic View Drive, Greencastle, Pa., and Coos Bay, Ore., died Sunday, July 28, 2002, at Waynesboro (Pa.) Hospital.
Born May 22, 1907, in Shelton, Wash., she was the daughter of the late William H. Johnston and Catherine Pitts Johnston Shelton.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Alois Sigle; and by her second husband, Walter Hughes.
She was a graduate of Coos Bay High School, and attended beauty school.
She was employed by beauty shops in Florida, Baltimore, Alaska and North Bend, Ore., until she retired in 1972.
She was a Protestant.
She is survived by one daughter, Fosta Eagler of Greencastle; one son, Franklin L. Melzer of Camas, Wash.; one sister, Ethel Blakley of Portland, Ore.; 13 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; 28 great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her stepfather, Fred Shelton; one son, Donald E. Melzer; and one brother, Fred Shelton.
Graveside services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle. The Rev. Floyd E. Myers will officiate.

Doris R. Cameron
CLEAR SPRING - Doris Ruth Boyd Cameron, 79, of Clear Spring, died Sunday, July 28, 2002, at Washington County Hospital.
Born April 6, 1923, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late John Ellis Boyd and Agnes Ruth Spaulding Boyd Rowe.
Her husband, James Wilbur Cameron, died in 1994.
She was employed at Fairchild Aircraft; and at Western Maryland Railroad as a chief clerk in the yard office until retiring in 1983 after 41 years.
She was a member of Western Maryland Railway Old Timers, Morris Frock American Legion Post 42 Auxiliary, Chambersburg Women of the Moose Lodge, AARP and the Englebert Fan Club.
She is survived by two daughters, Cordis T. Cameron of Hagerstown, and Tina M. Cameron, at home; one son, James E. Cameron of Frederick, Md.; one brother, Jack Boyd of Issaquah, Wash.; three grandsons; and one stepgranddaughter.
Graveside services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown. The Rev. Clyde Hardin will officiate.

FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - Joyce R. Monn Crum, 52, 4401 Cold Spring Road, died Sunday, July 28, 2002, at Hershey (Pa.) Medical Center.
Born April 3, 1950, in Waynesboro, Pa., she was the daughter of Archie H. and Lillian Naugle Monn of South Mountain, Pa.
Her husband, Charles C. Crum, died March 10, 1968.
She attended Fairfield (Pa.) schools.
She was employed as a nursing aide at South Mountain Restoration Center for 18 years, retiring in 1997.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by one daughter, Joanna L. St. Clair of Grass Flat, Pa.; one sister, Cathy K. Daywalt of South Mountain; six brothers, Archie H. Monn II of Gettysburg, Pa., Dan Monn of Fayetteville, Greg A. Monn, Douglas J. Monn, Nathan P. Monn and Archie J. Monn, all of South Mountain; three grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be Wednesday at Strang's Cemetery, South Mountain. The Rev. Russ Lee will officiate.

Russell K. Sites Jr.
Russell K. Sites Jr., 80, of Hagerstown, died Sunday, July 28, 2002, at Washington County Hospital.
Born April 3, 1922, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Russell Kennedy Sites Sr. and Elizabeth Knight Sites.
He was a graduate of Hagerstown High School.
He was employed as an engineer by Fairchild Aerospace Corp. for 38 years.
A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was awarded the Purple Heart and a Bronze Star, among other decorations.
He had been a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Hagerstown.
He was a member of Morris Frock Post 42 American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1936, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 212, AMVETS Post 10 and Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge 694, all in Hagerstown; Eagles Inc. W, in Waynesboro, Pa.; and the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Chapter 49.
He is survived by his wife of 11 years, Natalie J. Goetz Sites; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Virginia L. Henessey, in 1978.
Services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Robert S. Barton will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown, with military honors by AMVETS Post 10.

HANCOCK - Violet Marguerite Whisner Landers, 82, of Quaker Creek, died Sunday, July 28, 2002, at her home.
Born June 8, 1920, in Great Cacapon, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late John Walter and Annie Kathryn Gaither Whisner.
Her first husband, Gerald C. Effland, died May 7, 1969. Her second husband, William J. Landers, died Dec. 16, 1984.
She retired from Jacob Brother's Sewing Factory in Hancock.
She was a member of Mt. Olivet Presbyterian Church in Hancock.
She is survived by two daughters, Barbara D. Effland Unger of Warfordsburg, Pa., and Janet R. Shoemaker of Hancock; one brother, Harold D. Whisner of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; three grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one grandson; four sisters, Annie J. Whisner, Rosy M. Youngblood, Pearl I. Whisner and Velda M. Whisner; 12 brothers, John W. Whisner, John V. Whisner, James O. Whisner, Teddy T. Whisner, Gilbert Whisner, Rumer L. Whisner, Roy B. Whisner, Earl S. Whisner, Boyd G. Whisner, Paul Whisner, Clifton Whisner and Clyde H. Whisner.
Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, Hancock. The Rev. Steve Dawson will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Nebo Cemetery, Great Cacapon.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, which will be open after 3 p.m.
