Fundraisers to benefit Johnston's family
CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. — A series of fundraisers will be held this summer to benefit the family of Mark Johnston, a former Jefferson County police officer who died last month at the age of 44 after battling a brain tumor.
A benefit concert will be Saturday at 6 p.m. at Jefferson High School in Shenandoah Junction, W.Va., to help the family pay medical bills, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department.
Chasing Grace, a Christian band based in Fulks Run, Va., is scheduled to perform.
A bake sale will be June 19 at 9 a.m. in front of the Charles Town Wal-Mart off U.S. 340, and a second bake sale will be held the morning of June 21 at the Citizens Fire Co.
A basket bingo and raffle is scheduled for Aug. 9 by the Shepherdstown (W.Va.) Fire Department, according to the sheriff’s department. Proceeds will benefit a fund for Johnston’s children.
