GREENCASTLE, Pa. — Five people from Conover, N.C., were injured in a one-vehicle accident Monday afternoon that closed Interstate 81 in Antrim Township, Pa., for an hour, Pennsylvania State Police said in a news release.

Police said Melvin Lee Sigmon, 54, was driving an Oldsmobile Rendezvous minivan south on the interstate in the passing lane, when the vehicle veered across traffic in the right-hand lane and left the roadway on the west side.

The minivan struck four trees before coming to rest over an embankment, police said.

The interstate was closed for about an hour while Sigmon and four passengers were cut from the vehicle, according to the release.

All occupants of the vehicle were wearing seat belts, police said.

Sigmon was flown to York (Pa.) Hospital with moderate injuries, while Roberta Sigmon, 51, Sonya Singletary, 34, and two juveniles were taken to Washington County Hospital in Hagerstown for treatment of minor injuries, police said.

The accident occurred in Franklin County about 3 1/2 miles north of the Maryland line.
