Man killed in accident at Guardian Fiberglass identified
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — An employee at the Guardian Fiberglass plant near Inwood, W.Va., who died Thursday from injuries related to an industrial accident was identified Friday as Billy J. Willison Sr. of Gerrardstown, W.Va.
Willison was a lead maintenance mechanic at the plant, where had worked for 11 years, according to Guardian Industries spokesperson Amy Hennes. The fiberglass insulation plant opened in 1998.
Grief counselors were at the plant Friday and will be there again Monday, according to Hennes. She said the company’s thoughts and prayers were with Willison’s family.
The industrial accident at 4812 Tabler Station Road was reported Thursday at 10:15 a.m., according to Berkeley County Central Dispatch.
Willison became stuck in a roller on a piece of machinery that was set up for paper to go through, according to South Berkeley Volunteer Fire Co. Chief Richard “Rick” Petry. Willison was freed from the machine with a cutting torch and the fire company’s services were not needed, Petry said.
Willison was pronounced dead at the plant by county medical examiner Justin Caldwell.
Investigating deputies determined foul play was not apparent in the accident, Berkeley County Sheriff Kenneth M. Lemaster Jr. said.
Funeral arrangements were incomplete Friday.
