Two Washington County residents killed in crash near Boonsboro
BOONSBORO — A Funkstown man and a Boonsboro man were identified Sunday as the people who died Saturday night after a crash on Alternate U.S. 40 near Boonsboro, Maryland State Police said.
Corey Thomas Williams, 19, of Funkstown, and Charles Wayne Clevenger, 27, of Boonsboro, are the deceased, state police said.
A white Ford Contour being driven by Clevenger was northbound on Alternate U.S. 40 near Benevola Church Road shortly before 10 p.m. when the car went through a guardrail, vaulted into a tree and stopped on an embankment, police said.
Speed was a contributing factor, state police said. Williams, the front-seat passenger, was wearing his seat belt, but Clevenger was not wearing a seat belt, police said.
The road was reopened before 2:12 a.m.
