World War II Pheasant Canteen team honored
On Oct. 13, Aberdeen's WWII Pheasant Canteen team was honored at an award ceremony and reception at the Ward Hotel. The group received two national history awards ¿ the Award of Merit and the History in Progress Award ¿ from the American Association of State and Local History for the team's efforts in collecting and exhibiting artifacts and stories related to Aberdeen's famed WWII Red Cross Canteen, which became known as the Pheasant Canteen because of its main menu item ¿ the pheasant sandwich.
