How do I sign up for a digital subscription?
You can go to herald-mail.com/about/digital. You will find information about the digital and print subscription packages with links to sign up online.

What is a digital subscription and why should I get one?
A digital subscription gives you unlimited access to all the content on herald-mail.com. This includes content you find in the printed edition of The Herald-Mail as well as videos, blogs, comments from online users, and story updates throughout the day. If you choose a digital only subscription, you will have unlimited access to herald-mail.com but you will be missing out on our home delivery service and on a brand new eEdition available on your computer or with your iPad, tablet or reader. You can learn more about home delivery here.

What if I am already a Herald-Mail home delivery subscriber?
If you are currently a Herald-Mail home delivery subscriber you will receive free, unlimited access to online content and will automatically become a Platinum, Gold or Silver club member with special perks and rewards. You will have free, unlimited access to news on herald-mail.com. You will also receive our new eEdition - an electronic edition of the newspaper - that you can view on your computer or on your iPad, tablet or reader.

I have a subscription to The Herald-Mail, but not for seven-day home delivery. Will I still have free access to herald-mail.com?
Yes. Our print subscribers will have free access to herald-mail.com (you just need to go online to activate your free website account) Our current subscribers automatically become members of our Platinum (seven-day home delivery), Gold (five-day or weekend home delivery*) and Silver (Sunday only) reward clubs. You'll receive free access to our new eEdition (available to subscribers on a frequency matching their home delivery service). You'll also receive special perks and bonuses for being club members.

What is an eEdition?
An eEdition is an electronic version of our printed paper available online everyday. It looks like the newspaper and you tab from page to page. You can also view it on an iPad, tablet or reader. It's a great for the bus or train commuter or if you're traveling. Download the latest version and take it with you. We're making the eEdition available to everyone for the month of February so you can see it for yourself. You can click here, or on the link on our home page to see it. After Feb. 29, the eEdition will only be available to our home delivery customers.

What if I’m not a home delivery subscriber?
We hope you'll consider becoming a home delivery subscriber and you'll get the best value if you do. Subscribers are members of our Platinum, Gold and Silver clubs and receive special rewards and offers throughout the year. Plus we offer a free online subscription with your home delivery and a tablet-friendly eEdition. If you chose not to subscribe to home delivery, you can get an online-only subscription for just $5.99 a month. Our online only subscription does not include access to our eEdition.

Why would I want a newspaper subscription and an online subscription?
Purchasing or maintaining a home delivery subscription to The Herald-Mail gives you the best value. It gives you full digital access at no charge. The newspaper contains content you won't receive online such as some columnists, the comics and inserts and special coupons for local stores. The website contains content you won't receive in print such as videos, additional photos, breaking news as it is happening, special coupons and daily deals. Plus, as a home subscriber, we'll send you special gifts and offers through our rewards program throughout the year.

What is premium online content and what is free content?
Premium online content includes news, feature and sports articles produced by our local staff, videos, obituaries, and wedding and engagements. You can access 15 premium pages a month for free. Free online content includes breaking news, the home page and section fronts such as news, sports and lifestyle, classifieds, The Calendar and our blogs.

How will I know when I am close to my limit of 15 free pages per month?
The pages you view online are tracked over a 30 day period. A notice will appear on your screen when you have hit 5 and 10 premium page views. You can click on a link in the notice and subscribe at that time, or click to continue viewing online content. A subscription notice will appear when you have used all of your 15 premium page views asking you to subscribe to one of our flexible Subscription Membership programs that include access to herald-mail.com. At that point, you will not be able to view any additional online premium content for the remainder of the 30 days.

When does the meter start counting my 15 free pages?
The meter starts when you view a premium news story and resets 30 days later. It does not run on a calendar basis so it won't reset at the beginning of each month. The meter will "reset" 30 days after the date you first view a page of premium content.

How do I pay for my print and online, or online only subscription?
You can pay for the print and online subscription via check in person at our offices at 100 Summit Avenue, Hagerstown or through the mail or via credit card in person or online.
If you want to become an online only subscriber, you'll need to register and pay online via credit card here. You can start that process at any point after you view at least five pages of premium content. The process is handled through a secure check out service.
If you want to order a home delivery subscription that comes with free online and eEdition access with your credit card you can do so through our secure online check out service, click here. Once you order and pay for your subscription, you will need to activate your online subscription.

If I have trouble setting up or activating my new online subscription account or need help logging in to access my online subscription, who do I call?
You can call us at 301-733-5131 and we will walk you through the process.

Is the popup “subscribe” window a secure URL?
Yes, the site is secured and is a HTTPS URL.

I have registered on herald-mail.com so I can comment on stories and I have a log-in to do that.  I have also registered on The Herald-Mail Insite VIP Club so I can receive newsletters and have a log-in for that club.  Do I have to have another log-in for my online subscription?
Yes, you do have to have a log-in to access your online subscription but you shouldn't have to log in each time you visit herald-mail.com. Our online subscription service is separate from our herald-mail.com log-in which allows commenting and our Insite VIP Club log-in which handles our newsletters.

What does this mean to me as a frequent online commenter at herald-mail.com?
You can still comment using your existing account and log-in on herald-mail.com without subscribing but you will be limited to 15 free premium pages per month. Once you have reached the limit, you will be required to subscribe if you wish to continue commenting during that 30 day period.

Will I still be able to access herald-mail.com articles through Facebook and Twitter?
Yes you can. When you visit herald-mail.com from a link on Facebook or Twitter that article will count toward your monthly access of 15 premium pages.

If I have a computer at home and a computer at my office, will I need to purchase two digital subscriptions?
No. You can log in using your digital account user name and password from wherever you access the Internet.

I operate a business/office. Can all of our employees use the same account?
If your office has fewer than 25 people, each user should have his or her own digital subscription. We do offer special pricing for business with more than 25 employees. The learn more, contact our Customer Service Department at 301-733-5131.

What is the cancellation and refund policy?
You may cancel your subscription at any time. When you cancel, we will stop charging your account in the next billing cycle. Each billing cycle for online only subscribers is four weeks, so your unlimited access will continue through that period. Afterwards, you will be able to view 15 premium pages a month at no charge, just like any other visitor.
