As founder of Lehigh Valley Animal Hospital, Gene Witiak, seen here in his office in Allen Township in November 2006, has seen many cases of diseased and deformed dogs over the years caused by poor breeding, bad care and mishandling. ‘The important thing is the temperament, not what’s outside,’ he said. If a puppy is comfortable being held like a baby and the dog remains on its back, Witiak said, ‘then don’t look at another dog.’
