( Photo courtesy of National Baseball Hall of Fame Library ) A dapper Irishman -- he played for the 19th century Orioles with a vanity mirror tucked under his cap -- Kelley played tougher than he looked. A key to Baltimore's three National League flag-winners (1894-1896), the strong-armed Hall of Fame outfielder once batted .393, scored 165 runs and went 9-for-9 in a doubleheader. He stole a league-leading 87 bases in 1896 and, in one game, pounded Cy Young for four two-base hits. |
