Sherice and Marilyn Williams

At 6 a.m. the line that had formed outside J.C. Penney at White Marsh Mall trickled inside the store, where shoppers were after $8 kitchen appliances.

Sherice Williams and her mother Marilyn, of Columbia, S.C., were visiting family in Baltimore but still made the annual shopping trip.

The duo started at 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving day and stayed out shopping all night.

"Bargains baby," said Marilyn Williams. "We do this every year to save a dollar. Not necessarily for Christmas gifts."

They had collected Cooks nonstick griddles for $8 but were unable to get the juicer on sale.

Crowds packed the kitchen appliance section of the store, just inside the door. But by 6:30 a.m. most of those items on sale had sold out.
