Fashion is as much an element of Howard University Homecoming as the celebrity sightings and 100,000 people that flock to the annual event each year. The fashion show has featured couture from everyone from Betsey Johnson and Tommy Hilfiger to Michael Knight from season three of "Project Runway." Bianca Golden, from "America's Next Top Model," walked in a number of past shows. This year's theme "Empressions: Dreaming a New Dawn" will focus more on ready-to-wear garments, according to the show's coordinator DaMarkis Brown. "These are actually clothes that you would be interested in wearing to an event and everyday," Brown says. The fashion doesn't end after Wednesday's show. Yardfest, a gathering of vendors, free concerts and other entertainment, is a must for fashionistas looking to make a splash. Brown suggests making an impact through killer accessories. "Just be an individual," Brown says. "Don't think so much about what you are going to wear." |
