SANDY HOOK—
A fisherman was rescued by a passer-by after he waded into the Potomac River Sunday morning and got swept away, said Assistant Fire Chief Roger Otzelberger of Potomac Valley Volunteer Fire Co.
A woman passing by the area, near Lock 33 and near where the Potomac meets the Shenandoah River, heard a man in the Potomac yelling for help and called 911 at 10:22 a.m. Sunday, a Washington County Emergency Services supervisor said.
While she stayed on the phone with 911, another man pulled the man out of the river, the 911 supervisor said.
The fisherman refused medical treatment, Otzelberger said.
