MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — Nineteen West Virginia-based hospitals, including West Virginia University Hospitals-East’s Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Ranson, W.Va., and City Hospital in Martinsburg, recently were recognized for supporting organ, tissue and cornea donations.

The Center for Organ Recovery and Education, a federally designated not-for-profit organ-procurement organization serving Pennsylvania, West Virginia and parts of New York, recently recognized the hospitals with the West Virginia Governor’s Award for Life 2012.

The award recognizes area hospitals that have successfully supported organ, tissue and cornea donation within their health care facilities and have achieved increased donation rates as a result.



Coats for Kids

BELLWOOD, Pa. — Wolf Furniture, along with WAFY, WEEG and Comcast, are supporting The Salvation Army’s Coats for Kids program.

New or gently used coats and jackets are being collected until Dec. 19 at Wolf Furniture at Hagerstown Premium Outlets and at 1215 W. Patrick St. in Frederick, Md.

The Salvation Army will distribute the coats collected to disadvantaged families in the area.

Coats also can be dropped off at The Salvation Army office at 505 Virginia Ave. in Martinsburg, W.Va.
