Officials at Hagerstown Community College announce the appointment of Alicia Manfre as instructor of biotechnology.

A graduate of North Hagerstown High School, Manfre completed her doctoral degree in genetics at Clemson University.

In her new position, Manfre will teach a full load of credit courses within the biotechnology curriculum; serve as co-principal investigator with Mathematics and Science Division Chairwoman Judith Peisen for HCC's current National Science Foundation grant, Pathways to Careers in Biotechnology and Biomanufacturing; coordinate the Biotechnology Summer Institutes for ESSENCE students and secondary science teachers; coordinate off-campus student internship sites; and assist with administrative duties within the division.

Before earning her doctorate,  Manfre earned a bachelor's degree in biology from Texas Christian University. During summer breaks as an undergraduate student, she took a few classes at Hagerstown Community College.

Manfre most recently held the position of postdoctoral research associate with the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Kearneysville, W.Va. Prior to that, she held similar research positions with the Department of Cell Biology and Molecular Genetics at the University of Maryland, the Department of Biological Sciences at Dartmouth College, and the Department of Genetics, Biochemistry and Life Science Studies at Clemson.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — Larry F. Mazza, CEO of MVB Financial Corp., announced another addition to the MVB East Lending team.

Jarrod Furgason has joined the MVB team as a mortgage loan officer. In this capacity, Furgason will be responsible for developing relationships with current and prospective clients, while supporting the efforts of MVB's correspondent lending program.

Furgason completed his undergraduate degree at Fairmont State University and completed his master's in business administration at West Virginia University in 2008. Furgason has nine years of mortgage-lending experience in the state of West Virginia.

Furgason is a member of the Fairmont State Athletic Association and Generation Morgantown, a volunteer for United Way and Relay for Life, past board member and treasurer for Fairmont Rotary, and served as a volunteer football coach for Fairmont Senior High School from 2005-10.

He will work from MVB's Martinsburg office at 651 Foxcroft Ave.
