MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — Dr. Christopher M. Spiess, anesthesiologist, recently joined Eastern Panhandle Anesthesia Associates, based at City Hospital in Martinsburg.
Spiess recently completed a residency in anesthesiology at the University of Louisville Hospitals in Kentucky. He holds a doctor of medicine degree from the West Virginia University School of Medicine in Morgantown, W.Va., where he graduated with honors in medical ethics.
Having completed his third and fourth years of medical school in the Eastern Panhandle through the WVU School of Medicine’s Eastern Division, Spiess is returning to the area with his wife and daughter to practice in Martinsburg.
Eastern Panhandle Anesthesia Associates provides complete anesthesia services to surgical patients at City Hospital. The group includes Drs. Jack Shamblin, Satish Menon, Sally McLellan and Frederic D’Alauro.
Shenandoah Community Health Center
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — Dr. Sarah B. Hardy, pediatrician, recently joined Shenandoah Community Health Center and the medical staff at West Virginia University Hospitals-East’s City Hospital.
Hardy received her medical degree from the West Virginia University School of Medicine, and completed her internship and residency in pediatrics at the University of Vermont, Vermont Children’s Hospital at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington.
A member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, Hardy’s clinical interests include general pediatrics, care of newborns and the effects of maternal drug use.

GREENCASTLE, Pa. — Liz Weber, a leadership consultant and speaker based in Greencastle, is now one of only 12 leadership experts in the country to hold both the Certified Speaking Professional, or CSP, and Certified Management Consultant, or CMC, designations.
Weber was awarded the CSP designation July 15 at the National Speakers Association’s annual convention in Indianapolis. Conferred by the National Speakers Association, the CSP is the speaking profession’s international measure of professional platform competence. Only the top 10 percent of speakers earn this credential.
The CSP designation is earned through demonstrating competence in platform skills, business management, education and association.
Weber earned the CMC from the Institute of Management Consultants in 2005.

Wilkinson is a graduate of the University of North Carolina and Emory University School of Law. He worked in private practice for nine years before joining the Office of the County Attorney in Washington County as an assistant county attorney in 2006. He specializes in business law and contracts, civil litigation, and land use and development.
Center for Orthopedic Excellence
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — The Center for Orthopedic Excellence recently announced the addition of Dr. John W. Buschman, orthopedic surgeon, to the practice at 1008 Tavern Road in Martinsburg.
Buschman recently completed his residency in orthopedic surgery in Ohio at Doctors Hospital in Columbus and Firelands Regional Medical Center in Sandusky. He earned his doctor of osteopathic medicine at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
Buschman is joining the practice of Drs. Joseph Cincinnati, Troy Foster and Tom Knutson. He is a member of the medical staff at West Virginia University Hospitals-East’s City Hospital.
Fracture care, total joint replacement and arthroscopy of the knee and shoulder are some of Buschman’s special interests, along with sports medicine.

West Virginia University School of Medicine
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — West Virginia University School of Medicine faculty member Dr. Sarah K. Moerschel was recently promoted to the rank of associate professor for the 2013 academic year.
Moerschel graduated from the Loyola Stritch School of Medicine in Chicago and completed a pediatrics residency at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. She is a board-certified pediatrician who has been practicing at Harpers Ferry (W.Va.) Family Medicine since 2004, and is an active member of the medical staff at Jefferson Memorial Hospital.
As an associate professor for the WVU School of Medicine, Moerschel teaches medical students and family medicine residents in the Eastern Panhandle. She is the clerkship director for pediatrics, overseeing third-year medical students’ pediatric rotations.
In 2011, Moerschel received the award for WVU School of Medicine Eastern Division Outstanding Clinical Faculty, which is voted on by medical students.
Additionally, Moerschel is a published researcher and author, with several articles appearing in scholarly publications including American Family Physician and the West Virginia Medical Journal.
In addition to her work as a physician and educator, Moerschel serves on the Jefferson County Multidisciplinary Investigative Team as a medical expert assisting law enforcement in cases of child sex abuse and interpretation of medical information.
Summit Urology Group
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — Dr. Jason Gerboc recently joined Summit Urology Group, an affiliate of Summit Health, at Summit Health Center, Building 2, 757 Norland Ave., Suite 208, in Chambersburg.
Gerboc, a native of northeastern Pennsylvania, was a major in theU.S. Air Force. He was deployed to Iraq in 2010 to treat soldiers with urologic injuries.
Prior to bringing his surgical skills to Chambersburg, he was treating patients and teaching urology at Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio.
Gerboc joins Dr. Kambiz Tajkarimi in the Chambersburg practice.

City of Hagerstown
Karen Paulson was appointed as director of human resources for the city of Hagerstown, effective July 23.
Paulson is a resident of Hagerstown and has been serving as the city’s acting director of human resources since December 2011. She holds a Bachelor of Science in business management from the University of Maryland and is a graduate of North Hagerstown High School.
She is a certified retirement coordinator with the Maryland State Retirement Agency, and has affiliations with the Society for Human Resource Management, the National Public Employer Labor Relations Association and the International Public Management Association for Human Resources. Among her accomplishments, she has earned certification as a professional in human resources from the HR Certification Institute.
