Hagerstown-Washington County Economic Development Commission
During its recent annual meeting, the Hagerstown-Washington County Economic Development Commission elected new officers to lead the board of directors.
The following members were selected by their peers for one-year terms:
Daniel Pheil, of Cinetic Landis Corp., was elected chairman, replacing Hal Lucas, of Global Reconnaissance Technologies. Pheil serves as a representative of the Greater Hagerstown Committee.
Andrew Sargent, of Trust Development and Management LLC, was elected vice chairman, replacing Pheil. Sargent serves as a representative of the Hagerstown-Washington County Chamber of Commerce.
Jefry Bohn, of Smith Elliott Kearns & Co. LLC, was elected secretary, replacing Fred Frederick, of Frederick, Seibert and Associates Inc. Bohn serves as a representative of the chamber of commerce.
F&M Trust
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — Avis M. Graham and Roderick C. Salter recently were promoted to assistant vice president – Investment & Trust Services at F&M Trust.
Graham joined F&M Trust in 1998, and served as the Personal Investment Center administrative assistant before becoming a personal investment counselor in 2004. She is responsible for providing personal financial planning, investment and trust services.
A registered representative of INVEST Financial Corp., Graham is a certified financial planner. She also is a registered financial consultant and a chartered adviser for senior living, a credential for professionals serving the needs of senior clients.
She lives in the Chambersburg area with her husband, Kurt, and has volunteered for numerous community projects, including Menno Haven’s Country Day and the Franklin County Fall Farm Fun Fest.
Salter joined the bank in 2008 and serves as a personal investment counselor for southern Franklin County. He is responsible for providing comprehensive personal financial planning, investment, trust and insurance services to customers primarily in the Greencastle, Marion, Mont Alto and Waynesboro, Pa., areas.
A graduate of York (Pa.) College with a Bachelor of Science in engineering management, Salter is a registered representative of INVEST Financial Corp. He earned a financial services specialist designation from the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors. He holds securities registration; Series 6, 7, 63 and 65 registrations; as well as life, accident and health insurance licenses for Pennsylvania, Maryland and West Virginia.
A past president of the Cumberland Valley Chapter of the National Association of Insurance Financial Advisors, Salter also previously served as president of the South Central, Pa., Estate Planning Council and as a board member of Christian Residential Opportunities and Social Services.
He lives in Chambersburg with his wife, Tammy, and two children.
Dick, Stein, Schemel, Wine & Frey LLP
WAYNESBORO, Pa. — Elizabeth A. Clark, esquire, is a new associate at the law firm of Dick, Stein, Schemel, Wine & Frey LLP.
Born and raised in York County, Pa., Clark graduated cum laude from Lehigh University with a Bachelor of Arts in political science, and earth and environmental science. She earned her Juris Doctorate from Temple University School of Law and clerked for the Honorable David H. Heckler in Bucks County, Pa.
She began her private practice in the litigation department of an insurance defense firm in Philadelphia. After a move to Alabama, where she engaged in a solo general law practice, she returned to Pennsylvania, where she practiced in the State College area.
Civil litigation, criminal litigation, estate planning and estate administration are her current areas of concentration.
With 10 years of experience, Clark is licensed to practice in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Alabama, and plans to sit for the Maryland bar exam this summer.
Clark and her family live in Greencastle, Pa., where she and her husband are raising their two children. They are members of St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church.
O’Neill Physical Therapy Services
Lorraine O’Neill, physical therapist and owner of O’Neill Physical Therapy Services in Hagerstown, recently developed two online continuing-education courses for physical therapists.
The courses teach physical therapists how to evaluate people with osteoporosis, and develop evidence-based exercise and fracture-prevention programs.
Over the past 15 years, O’Neill has traveled nationwide teaching continuing-education courses for physical therapists. In addition to osteoporosis education, O’Neill has taught courses concerning treating urinary incontinence and fibromyalgia, and about shoulder rehabilitation.
Maryland Pharmacists Association
BALTIMORE — The Maryland Pharmacists Association recently installed Brian Hose as president during the organization’s 130th annual convention in Ocean City, Md.
Hose is a 2006 graduate of the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy in Baltimore, and for the past four years has owned and operated Sharpsburg Pharmacy. He was a longtime resident of Hagerstown and currently lives in Clear Spring with his wife, Stacey.
In his acceptance speech, Hose set forth his top priorities for the year: to work with the Maryland General Assembly to have pharmacists recognized as health care providers in Maryland; and to embrace the collaborative practice model by identifying and supporting the development of five new community practice sites.
Hose’s term runs through June 2013.
Jerr-Dan Corp.
Jeff Soldner and Erick Montero have been named to key positions at Jerr-Dan Corp., an Oshkosh Corp. company and provider in the towing and recovery equipment market.
As product director, Soldner will be responsible for overseeing product development, innovation and improvement.
Soldner comes to Jerr-Dan with more than 21 years of product-development and testing experience from Oshkosh Corp. and Oshkosh Defense. He joined Oshkosh Corp. in 1990 in the test and development area, supporting government testing of Oshkosh vehicles at the Aberdeen (Md.) Proving Ground and the Automotive Test Center in Silver Spring, Nev.
He studied business administration at Cardinal Stritch University and engine technology at Moraine Park Technical College in Wisconsin.
Montero will be Jerr-Dan’s director of sales for Latin America. He will be responsible for the company’s business development efforts in South America, Central America, the Caribbean and Mexico.
Montero comes to Jerr-Dan from JLG Industries, where he was district sales manager for the Caterpillar Alliance Group in Latin America.
Montero holds a master’s degree in business administration from Belloso University and a bachelor’s degree in business from Urdaneta University in Venezuela.
David Black Associates Inc.
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — Dennis Regan has joined David Black Associates Inc. as senior engineer.
Prior to joining the firm, Regan, a registered professional engineer, was employed by Regan-Matonak and Associates, where he served as senior structural engineer. He is licensed in Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
Hagerstown Police Department
Officer Mitchell Filges was selected as the officer of the month for May.
Filges was nominated by several of his supervisors for his courage in dealing with an armed, suicidal subject. On May 18, officers with the Hagerstown Police Department responded to the area of Little Hayden Circle in Hagerstown for a report of a male threatening suicide. The male reportedly had access to firearms.
Filges engaged the subject in a dialogue. The male refused to comply with Filges’ requests and closed the door to the residence. A short time later, officers heard a single gunshot come from inside the residence.
Moments later, the male again began dialogue with Filges, who was eventually relieved by crisis negotiators who convinced the subject to surrender.
Filges has been employed by the city of Hagerstown for five years and is assigned to the Uniform Patrol Division’s Charlie Platoon.
Edward Jones
Shelby McGinley of the financial services firm Edward Jones in Hagerstown recently won the firm’s Ed Armstrong Award for her exceptional achievement in building client relationships.
McGinley was one of 1,429 of the firm’s 12,000 financial advisers to receive the award, which is named after a man who built a successful branch office and has contributed to his community of Grand Island, Neb., since 1977.
Tapestry technologies LLC
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — Tapestry technologies LLC recently announced the continuation of its internship program, which began in January 2011.
As an information-technology, or IT, security company, tapestry is heavily involved in government cyber security efforts, as well as IT security training and commercial technology consulting.
Dustin Sipes, a Penn State University student majoring in security and risk analysis, was selected for the 2012 internship program.
Daniel Whitt, a Towson University student majoring in computer science, successfully completed the program in 2011, and returned to participate in the 2012 program.
Krystyna Thomas, a Towson University student majoring in elementary education, successfully completed the program in 2011, and returned to participate in the 2012 program.
Noah King, a University of Maryland, University College student majoring in cyber security who successfully completed the 2011 internship program and moved into a full-time position at tapestry technologies.
