After 30 years of working in information technology, Matthew Royer sought a professional opportunity that would allow him to be his own boss, put smiles on people’s faces and spend less time in front of a computer.
The Washington County native has replaced discussions about hard drives and motherboards with casual conversations about customers’ taste preferences when it comes to shaved ice.
On May 1, Royer became a Kona Ice franchisee. From his truck, from which resonates calypso music, he offers more than 10 flavors of shaved ice. He sells his products at parties, sporting events, schools, fundraisers and more in the Washington County area.
