The Hagerstown-Washington County Chamber of Commerce and the Hagerstown-Washington County Economic Development Commission will present the 2012 Washington County Business Awards on Feb. 29, at Hager Hall Conference and Event Center.

Pieter Bickford of WHAG-TV will emcee the Academy Awards-style ceremony that includes entertainment and the honoring of local businesses.

Nominations are being accepted for the following awards:

• At Your Service Award: Awarded to a Washington County retail or service business for undertaking actions that generate customer loyalty and satisfaction.

• Small Business of the Year Award: For county businesses with fewer than 50 employees. Awarded to a Washington County business that has demonstrated any or all of the following: quality products or services, job creation, innovation, strong community involvement, high standards in business practices, commitment to Washington County and the community, and establishment of a successful business in the county.

• Large Business of the Year Award: For businesses with more than 50 employees. Awarded to a Washington County business that has demonstrated any or all of the following: quality products or services, job creation, innovation, strong community involvement, high standards in business practices, commitment to Washington County and the community, and establishment of a successful business in the county.

• Going Green Award: Awarded to a Washington County business that uses environmentally friendly operating practices and procedures.

• Leading Edge Award: Awarded to a Washington County business that leverages technology to advance its organization. This might be an innovative use of existing technology, a new invention offered for sale, or creating or developing a significant advancement that serves as an inspiration for future progress.

• Nonprofit Impact Award: Recognizes and honors a 501c3 organization with a Washington County-based board of directors that provides exemplary services and/or programs. The recipient receives an unrestricted grant of $1,000, made possible by the Community Foundation of Washington County, MD.

• Washington County Business Person of the Year Award: Awarded to a Washington County business person who, during the last year, has demonstrated excellence in business, enhanced the image of the business community and/or has provided superior service to business and the community as a whole.

Businesses may be nominated for more than one category.

Nominations, which must be received by Sept. 23, may be submitted at www.hagerstown.org/wcba.
