Mike Nichols' original Broadway production of "Spamalot" was very funny. On balance, William Osetek¿s overachieving Drury Lane production was even funnier, mostly because it came with a certain Pythonesque humility that eluded the original model. There also was a veritable plethora of fresh, fast comic ideas, elevating all of King Arthur¿s silliness to new heights. When it came to providing belly laughs in 2011, only "Doyle & Debbie" came close. |
