( November 1, 2012 ) Joe Pug was one of the brightest talents that Chicago could claim, at least until the singer-songwriter uprooted to Austin, Texas, in 2010. Pug's work mines the classic folk tradition, threaded with themes of struggle, ire and a bit of working-class blues. His earnest sound appeals to and crosses over with fans of bluegrass, country, folk and underground music. He spoke to the Tribune last week while on the road in New York, where he was headed to play a tribute show for the Woody Guthrie centennial.
