Maugansville Elementary celebrated Red Ribbon Week the week of Oct. 22 to 26 with the theme, “I’m Voting for My Future — I’m Drug Free.” The week’s events and motivational items were sponsored by the PTA.
On Monday, Oct. 22, all grades participated by receiving backpack tags with the stay drug free week theme.
Tuesday, Oct. 23, was Red, White and Blue Day. All students were encouraged to be patriotic and keep the country drug free.
On Wednesday, Oct. 24, all students received theme pencils.
On Thursday, Oct. 25, students were treated to Twizzlers, with the idea, “Don’t Let Drugs Twist Your Mind.”
On Friday, Oct. 26, the students wore their favorite team shirt as part of “Team Up Against Drugs Day.”
Students in grades three, four and five were invited to participate in a poster contest in honor of Red Ribbon Week, sponsored by art teacher Mrs. Geis and counselor Mrs. King.
During art classes, over the last two weeks, students worked on their posters.
The overall winning poster was created by Fiza Younus, from Mrs. Deneen’s fifth-grade class.
Individual grade winners were:
• Third grade:
First place — Sienna Golden from Mrs. Moore’s class
Third place — Kylie Deaton from Mrs. Bentley’s class
• Fourth grade:
First place — Jocelyn Hockaday from Mrs. Tritapoe’s class
Second place — Lexi Reed from Mrs. Robison’s class
Third place — Ryan Wade from Mrs. Tritapoe’s class
• Fifth grade:
First place — Kyra Thomas from Mrs. Deneen’s class
Second place — Miranda DiNezza from Mrs. Wooster’s class
Third place — Chelsea McIntosh from Ms. Crunkleton’s class
The winning posters will be on display in the encore hall between the art and music classes.
