About 220 health studies students at South Hagerstown High School recently participated in a student service-learning project involving first aid.
The health teachers who led the project were Amy Deeds and Justin Burnett.
The students completed the project and received 15 community-service hours.
The students researched common first-aid topics, such as burns, heart attacks, seizures, strokes and allergic reactions.
They created a presentation to share awareness with students and families in the community about signs and symptoms, treatments, prevention and what to do in case of a medical emergency.
Part of the project was to buy or create a first-aid kit to use in the home.
The South High students donated 60 first-aid kits to the Washington County Chapter of the American Red Cross, which will use them in disaster-relief vans for families in need and will give them to veterans.
