FAIRFAX, Va. —The following area students were nominated as national youth correspondents for the 2012 Washington Journalism and Media Conference at George Mason University:
Allison Weddle of Thurmont, Md., a student at Catoctin High School, and Jake Dziubla, of Middletown, Md., a student at Middletown High School, have been nominated to represent Maryland.
The students have been awarded the opportunity to join a group of students from across the country to participate in a weeklong study of leadership in journalism and the media. They received the honor because of their academic accomplishments and a demonstrated interest and excellence in leadership in journalism and media studies.
National Youth Correspondents participate in hands-on, experiential learning through decision-making simulations that challenge them to solve problems and explore the creative, practical and ethical tensions inherent in journalism and media.
The experiential portion of the program is complemented by speakers who are well-known leaders in the media community. Presenters include prominent journalists, CEOs of major media outlets, researchers and recent college graduates already successfully entering the field.
The conference will be held July 8 to 13.
