Under the sponsorship of the Williamsport Lions Club, students at Springfield Middle School in Williamsport started their own Leo Club.
The objective of the Leo Club is the same as a Lions Club — to help those in need in the community.
The official charter night was held Nov. 9 at Zion Lutheran Church in Williamsport.
Eighteen students from sixth through eighth grade were inducted as charter members of the club.
Officers installed were President Keara Lewis, Vice President Shawn Wollard, Secretary Sydney Jarvis and Treasurer Alex Jarvis.
There were 75 guests in attendance.
Speakers included Lions Club District Gov. Paul Cannada, District Leo Chairperson George Bolling, Williamsport Mayor Jim McCleaf, Springfield Middle School Principal Jennifer Ruppenthal and Lions Club President Randy Taylor.
After the ceremony, refreshments were served.
The club will operate under the guidance of Lions Lois Conrad and Jim Wollard and faculty advisers Emily Crabtree, Debbie Frew and Julie Perez.
The club has already started its first project to give gifts to youngsters at CASA this month.
