Franklin County Fair pageant is Monday, Aug. 20

A few young ladies will realize their dreams Monday, Aug. 20, when they're crowned Franklin County Fair Queen, Princess or Little Miss, during the annual contests.

The Franklin County Fairgrounds, which is off Warm Springs Road, southwest of Chambersburg, opens Sunday, Aug. 19, and runs through Saturday, Aug. 25.

Monday night's pageantry will kick off at 5:30 p.m. with the Franklin County Little Miss contest. The Little Miss Contest is open to any girl ages 7 to 10, who is a resident of Franklin County and has never been a FCF Little Miss before. Contestants were required to write a biography, as well as write and recite a 30- to 40-second poem on "Why I Like the Fair" and answer an impromptu question during the contest.

Franklin County Fair Princess contest begins at 6:30 p.m. Princess contest is open to any girl  ages 11 to 15, who is a resident of Franklin County and has never been a FCF Princess before. Contestants were required to write a biography, as well as write and recite a two- to four-minute speech on "Why Should You Attend the Franklin County Fair" and answer an impromptu question the night of the contest.

Franklin County Fair Queen contest is at 8 p.m. Queen contest is open to any girl ages 16 to 20, is a resident of Franklin County and has never been a FCF Queen before. Contestants were are required to write a biography, deliver a three to five-minute speech on "Why I think County Fairs are important to Pennsylvania" and answer an impromptu question the night of the contest.

 Hannah Horst, 17, of Mercersburg, Pa., will be a senior this fall at James Buchanan High School.

 Maranda McGowan, 16, of St. Thomas, Pa.,will be a junior this fall at James Buchanan High School.

COST: Admission to the fair is free today; Monday, Aug. 20,  through Thursday, Aug. 23, admission is $10 a car load or $5 for single admission/walk-ins; Friday, Aug. 24, admission is $10 for ages 13 and older, $3 for ages 6 to 12 and free for those 5 and younger; Saturday, Aug, 25, admission is free until 1:30 p.m., after that it is $10 a car load or $5 for single admission/walk-ins.
