Mike Drake, owner of Corner Oaks Farms, has fresh local turkeys for sale.
From noon to 3 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 15, the Drake family will host the first of its kind, "Turkey Tasting" at Washington County Agricultural Education Center, 7313 Sharpsburg Pike, south of Hagerstown. Admission is $5.
Five varieties of roasted turkey will be available to sample including the broad breasted white and heritage varieties such as the Eastern Wild Turkey, Royal Palm Turkey, Blue Slate Turkey and the Bourbon Red Turkey.
In partnership with Corner Oaks Farms, the Washington County Technical High School (WCTHS) Culinary Arts Program will prepare the five varieties of turkey through brining and roasting methods. Teacher and Chef Tammy Twigg of the Culinary Arts Program will be present to offer guidance and training to the students.
