Van Hollen Is Caught Off Guard; Name Is Used by Foe's Web Sites

The GOP candidate for Congress from Maryland's 8th District says it was an opportunity he couldn't let pass. But incumbent Rep. Chris Van Hollen said Charles R. Floyd's Web sites represent "a new low for politics in this area."

Repeating a tactic he used against his Republican primary opponent this year, Floyd bought three Internet domain names with Van Hollen's name and turned them into Web sites carrying unflattering comments about the freshman congressman's record.

Floyd said Van Hollen should have seen it coming.

"I feel if the congressman doesn't have the foresight to buy up certain domain names with his name, does he deserve to be in Congress?" asked Floyd, a retired military officer and State Department employee. "It was up for grabs, so I bought it."

Probably Chuck Floyd's campaign manager. He figures that if Van Hollen doesn't have the foresight to post at the Herald-Mail forums, he doesn't deserve to be in Congress.

Van Hollen's district is Mont. county and a small part of P.G. county. This guy is as shady as they come and now he's whining about dirty pool? I lived in his district last election when he defeated Connie Morella. They had to rewrite the district and add some of P.G. (all democrat) to finally knock her off. I actually talked to this guy for about 5 mins. at the Shady grove subway and knew after about 45 seconds he wouldn't be getting my vote. Ultra liberal big government guy! he asked me when I was walking away if he could count on my vote and I told him "not in this lifetime". needless to see after the redrew the districts boundaries he squeaked by and replaced a great representative. I haven't heard of 1 thing he's done since he was elected.

Morella was always a Republican in name only. Van Hollen has just been more of the same. But I couldn't care less about PG and Monkey Counties anyway.

Floyd is a clever clever man. Who would have thought up such a thing? This is creative and I bet others will be doing this as well. It's like survival of the fittest!
