Dang Heather, these guys are hard to rattle! But I'm sure a few of them were out there saying "noooo, not that!"

Most of the guys here have heard it all before (over and over again) from the women in their lives anyway.    tongue.gif  laugh.gif

That's my point. It's irritating and TMI.

Bloat and cramp, yes Greedy. I feel like a hippo. Mean? I would say I tend to get overly emotional and sentimental...crying over stupid things, wanting hugs, etc. Not mean. Other people would probably argue with me on that though and say that I get bitchy.

The phrase " I'll menopause your ass" should strike fear all living beings! tongue.gif
EVERYTHING is all screwed up! Any female who says she "just breezed right thru it" is a LIAR!

OOH, maybe I should volunteer to straighten this guy out on the proper care and handling of pets!! biggrin.gif

To highlight the connection between animal cruelty and domestic
violence, and in memory of Cujo, the dog tied to the railroad tracks in
Martinsburg last week, The Fund for Animals has organized a candlelight
vigil.

When: Monday, 25 October, 6 p.m.

Where: Briggs Animal Adoption Center
3731 Berryville Pike (Route 340)
Charles Town, WV
(for directions, go to http://www.baacs.org/Section.asp?section_id=127)

What to bring: You and your animal companion (Please have him/her on a
leash and up to date on required shots). This is an outdoor event.

Invited speakers include: Delegate John Overington and other lawmakers,
representatives from the Humane Society of the United States, Briggs
Animal Adoption Center, Berkeley County Humane Society, Berkele! y County
Animal Control, and the Shenandoah Women's Center.

Richard Faircloth, the man who admitted to tying Cujo to the tracks
where the dog was struck and eventually bled out, victimized more than
an innocent animal with his violent actions. His wife Amy and young
son are now seeking to start a new life for themselves, free from his cruel
influence. Amy will be joining us for the vigil and, in the
midst of her turmoil, has arranged to have t-shirts made memorializing
Cujo. The t-shirts will be sold at the vigil and proceeds
will go to Briggs Animal Adoption Center, at Amy's request.

Because Amy is between homes right now, she has had to surrender her
two cats to Briggs Adoption Center. She would like them to be placed
together in a loving home. If you are interested in adopting these
kitties, please contact Briggs directly at 304-724-6558

Richard Faircloth remains in Eastern Regiona! l Jail on charges of felony
animal cruelty. His bail is set at $40,000 cash. Pamela Games Neely,
the Berkeley County Prosecutor, is seeking the MAXIMUM PENALTY and WILL
NOT ACCEPT A PLEA BARGAIN.

Faircloth has retained Shepherdstown attorney David Camiletti.
Camiletti is reportedly seeking to reduce the bail, and sources close
to Faircloth's family say that Camiletti may try a plea of temporary
insanity.

The earliest the trail could begin is February 2005.

ohmy.gif Temporary insanity? Due to what?? Whatever the excuse, I would think it would demonstrate that this guy needs some psychological help (in addition to jail time), because he obviously showed he has a short temper and tendency towards violence. I don't think someone who acted like he did, goes through these things on just a temporary basis. dry.gif

Agreed, Phish.

One more point. Because of the attention this has gotten and the public outrage, note the prosecuter is talking tough -- max. penalty and no plea bargain. Hmmmmm -- is there anything we can learn here?
SMan
Yeah, if you're charged with a heinous crime, pray it doesn't hit the AP newswire.

That's horrible, but what's worse is that the police probably won't catch whoever did it.

Why did you assume that nothing would be done? Seems like pretty good police work.
BMIC
I'm not so sure I'm not guilty of doing the same thing, but it occurs to me how unfair it may have been to have assumed at first that it was a bunch of teenagers who did it.

Are WV teens really that sick and twisted? I doubt it! IMO they ought to be angry that the first thing the authorities said to reporters was that it was probably a bunch of teenagers. Speaking as a parent of teenagers, I know they may do some dumb and even destructive things, but THIS? Come on! mad.gif

Speaking as the parent of a teenager who grew to know the Fairfax County Youth Court pretty well, there are some great kids out there, and then there are those..... Fortunately, I am not aware of any abuses towards my animals, and he outgrew his "phase".

However, there was 2 young men close to Ocala a year or so ago who finally got caught in their animal abuses. The one was much worse than the other, though. Investigations showed a multitude of kittens and puppies that he had abused, goats, he sodomized a llama with a golf club, then put out that llama's baby's eye with the golf club. His parents were doctors, and said "he'd never do something like that". Last I saw anything in the paper, he had been sentenced to home imprisonment, and was in the courts because he wasn't following those rules. Pretty bad news kid.

It's been at least a year, so you'd have to pay for the articles if you tried to research them on the Trib.

Because in the originial story the police said they thought it might be a bunch of teenagers, and I believe there were no witnesses.

If someone could do something like this to an innocent animal, imagine what he could do to someone he doesn't like! I work in domestic violence and many times animals are abused to control the children or spouse. It's all about power and control. Animal abuse should be a felony in every state. Most times animal abuse is a class A misdemeanor unless the person committing the abuse has a previous unrelated conviction or knowingly or intentionally tortures an animal then it becomes a class D felony. This is the law in my state: Indiana.

So if you forget to water your dog for a few days and the neighbors complain, you get charged with a felony? Misdemeanor convictions ain't a walk in the park! Drawing the line at knowingly or intentionally hurting an animal sounds reasonable to me.

Heck, one doesn't get charged with a felony in every case of abusing/assaulting another human. You can do plenty of jail time for a misdemeanor: Let's reserve felony charges for more seriously harmful, premeditated acts!

So right! People get very worked up about the mistreatment of animals and yet the abuse/assault of human beings is sometimes treated with a shrug.
BMIC
That, and people get so worked up, period, when something is in the news, that they get caught up in their emotions and call for all sorts of things that are really beyond reason.

The Richard Faircloth trial is over and they found him guilty of a
felony. The jury deliberated for 3 hours. He can get up to 3 years. This is the first case in West Virginia finding someone guilty of a felony in an animal abuse case.
