I apparently have 2 hot water heaters in my home,
one is electric and the other is gas,
(my house use to be two appartments).
Who do I call for a gas fill up....for only one hot water heater?

I can't imagine it would be much, but do these companies
come out on a regular basis for something as small as a hot water heater?

Who would you recommend? I don't want to find myself 'out' when I have
no idea how to gauge where to fill it....I know I should have found out more
information when I bought this home, but .....long story short....the house
was too perfect to think about the minor\major details that I am now finding
myself facing.

any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Also, I have a 'special needs' son, who is a young adult, I would like
to have an intercom system , (obviously not too expensive since I just
bought a home), who do I contact, the internet is not exactly as helpful as I
thought it would be...

also....What is the deal with trash night and recycle night, and who do I
contact to get a 'bin'. And should I have gotten this information at settlement..
now I am starting to feel a bit 'unknowledgeable...
" not a good feeling let me tell you...

I already had people going through my trash!!

I have posted in the past and do not seem to get e-mail notifications of responses, yet I have it 'checked' off to receive notifications...so if I don't respond right away, it's only because I didn't know someone else responded.
I don't have internet at home yet.
I have 'direct tv'
so I am not sure what type of internet service I want to go with.
any suggestions?
thanks again. smile.gif

Sorry 'bout that ma'am. That was Yoss. Standard procedure for any newbie on the HM Forums.

Call Larry and Sons Plumbing. They are very professional and reasonable. --- 2 water heaters??? Ask the plumber about possibly combining the systems... if it is separate.

'Gas fill up'??? If anything, the water heater is natural gas... That is thru Columbia Gas. There is nothing to 'fill'. They need to turn the gas on. Be careful lighting it...

Radio Shack has great 2-way intercoms.

The only thing the city currently recycles is paper. Wed night is paper night. (Oh, the city is out of the bins for now...) Just use a paper trash bag.

Internet - your options are www.antietamcable.com or Verizon DSL.

What neighborhood did you choose to move to?

ah, man, heard some bad stories about larry and sons. I use Ebersole on Maugansville Rd.

I'd ask neighbors about the trash. Depending where you are, you might be on a gas line or you might have a propane bottle to fill. If on a gas line, check outside the house or in the basement for the number to call on your valve or meter. Yep, Radio Shack has intercoms you can install yourself -- wired or wireless.

You can also ask the realtor to call the former owner and see if he/she would mind if you contacted them for a few questions -- unless they are jerks they should not mind.

My neighborhood? I live on East Avenue. Is that a neighborhood, or just
'IN TOWN' City Gal? tongue.gif

thanks for the wonderful information....you are all great!!!

For the intercom, if you want something more than what you can get at Radio Shack, consider Bob Foltz 301-733-2273. He's retired Bell Atlantic and started his own business. He's done intercom systems in the past (school system). He's a great guy and you can trust him.

We aren't in the city, so I can't help with the trash thing. However, if you want to haul your own recyclables, I think there is a big green county recycling container in the old Ames shopping center, where Papa John's is, on Dual Hwy. You can drop off glass, plastic, and metal (mixed together), and newspaper.

We opted to go all electric rather than have the propane, but I know several people in the neighborhood use Shawley's. That's about the extent of my knowledge on the subject.

As for plumbers, we use Nokes Bros. from Knoxville. They are the ones our builder used for the original work, so we called 'em back to do our basement completion. No complaints with their work or price.

No help for the intercom issue, but for internet, we use antietam. We have DirecTV, too.

Welcome to town! Hope you get settled in without too many troubles!

Thanks for the additional tips, and I will give Mr. Foltz a call.

You are all so great, I can't believe how responsive you are....

thanks again. biggrin.gif

I also have 2 boilers. 1 propane and 1 oil. I use Hardell for oil and AC&T for propane. Antietam cable is the only game in town for cable unless you want a dish.

Welcome to Hagerstown biggrin.gif

Thanks so much for the warm welcome.
Now for another question....

How or where would anyone suggest a way
for my son who is 22 years old, doesn't drink,
and loves music.....doesn't drive.....

how can he meet people with similiar interest...?
he is feeling quite isolated at the moment...
and I don't know where to guide him..
thanks for any input...you are great on this forum!! biggrin.gif
Heather
Wow, that really limits the options. Most of the music you find around here is in bars and clubs. He doesn't have to drink there, but I guess he doesn't want to be around drinking either?

"March 5 Western Maryland Guitar Society of Fine Art holds its first meeting at Port City Java on Friday, March 4 at 6:30pm. This organization promotes the art of classical and jazz guitar, as well as guitar education. The first meeting titled "Guitar Cafe" will feature performances by students, a brief lecture by Candice Mowbray on organizing practice time, and a performance by Ted Shusterman on classical guitar and lute. All guitar enthusiasts are welcome to attend."

That's a tough one. Good luck!

Hagerstown Grace Brethren Church has a coffee house the first Saturday of every month with live music and food. The best part is it's all free! Doors open at 6 and music starts at 7pm. They are located at 837 Spruce Street in Hagerstown.

Krumpes Donuts is right down the alley as well... yum...

Cuda's is a skanky meat market from what I hear. Never been there. Like Eclipse, though biggrin.gif .

I'd stick to the coffeeshops, Borders, and church events for your son. You might want to pick up a Valley Revue (at the library, among other places) for free around the beginning of each month. It's a giant events guide. Also, the Thursday H-M Out and About section has listings for the museums, theaters, and local colleges.

Ok, so far weve got classical guitar at the coffee house, church, donut shop, or "Skanky meat markets". I'm guessing your son will be ready to move any day now laugh.gif laugh.gif . Does he go to school? If he goes to HCC or hangs around there he might find some interesting things to do or places to hang out with people his own age.
paris47
He will hopefully be attending HCC in the fall...
right now he is going through some issues,
that would belong on another thread...
(dealing with mental health wellness)

thanks for the ideas, this gives us a great starting place.
seriously do appreciate all ALL the input!!
