I don't know how many of you saw last Monday's newspaper, but there was a story on Phi Theta Kappa inducting 60 new members. Many people don't know that Phi Theta Kappa is the International Honor Society of Two Year Colleges.
Every person inducted had a 3.5 G.P.A. or higher and has pledged to help their community. The 4 pillars we are built on are Leadership, Scholarship, Service and Fellowship. It is not just a certain type or age of person either. Our majors are accross the spectrum and our ages range from 14 to 60's.
We suport numerous charities during the year raising funds and working for those charities. To name a few the American Cancer Society, The American Red Cross and UNICEF. This semster alone we have raised over $1000.00 for Tsunami relief.
I am writing this to let you all know that the students at HCC aren't in College just for themselves. We do care about our community and we want to make it a better place for everyone.
I will be forever grateful to the staff and faculty for what they have done for the students. Their efforts and support have made it possible for us to achieve many things.
To those inducted Sunday March 20th I welcome and congratulate you for your success.
Sincerely
Tony Campello

I'm getting inducted into one of these organizations on my birthday for politics, but I don't know what it's called (it's a Greek name). I do know that I have to fork over $40 to be in it and I'll only "benefit" from it by having it on my résumé.

Hi Biggins
Not sure what one you are joining either but most of them you get out what you put in. Phi Theta Kappa is more than a spot on your resume. We are about Scholarship, Service, Leadership and Fellowship.
On the International and local levels we raise money for the fight agaisnt cancer. We fight hunger with Project Graduation. On the local level our chapter has raised over a $1000.00 for tsnumai relief this semester, we wrap gift at the mall for the Red Cross, we raised over $400 in 90 minutes last November for the cancer society.
Gotta run, have a good weekend.

It's definitely nothing like what your organization does. It just is an honor for good grades in political science courses.
We have something similar to Phi Theta Kappa here that is called Alpha Phi Omega. It's some sort of service fraternity that sounds exactly like what your organization is.
