Okay...first let me say that I am truly embarrassed by the publishing of the now famous "Saddam in his underwear" photos. I think that this kind of adolescent, sophmoric behavoir is beneath the US. HOWEVER, I have had it with the entire world holding the US to a completely impossible standard.

We are being condemmed as horrible people who mistreat their prisoners. Many members of the foriegn press are refusing to air the pictures of Saddam because they are "so upsetting" and "disrespectful". Some of these press agencies are the same ones who have aired video of our citizens having their heads chopped off, though! How many times have we seen the pictures of innocent people who were plucked off of the streets of foriegn lands, bound, disheveled, begging for their lives?

Look at the prisoner abuse scandal. I must admit, it sickened me, but the reason why is because I hate to see us behave like the animals overseas who think nothing of human life. Just like those terrorist groups make the Arab population look bad, the idiots who chose to abuse pictures and then be stupid enough to take pictures of it, make the US look bad. However, can anyone honestly say that these incidents were any more perverse than what has been happening in the Middle East?

I guess I just don't get it. When times get tough, everyone and their brother will come crying to the US for help but they'll judge us every step of the way.

Hating America: The New World Sport

"Anti-American backlash over the invasion of Iraq gets a rejoinder in this rancorous manifesto. Fox News Channel pundit Gibson takes on a wide array of targets in "the great pageant of Hating America," including Arabs (many of whom have "mindless hatred" for the U.S.), Germans (who find a "pure, addictive pleasure" in anti-Americanism), the British (whom, he suggests, hate themselves for not hating Americans enough) and, of course, the French (who live in Chirac’s "anti-American nation"). Gibson does unearth a lot of America-hating, from an Egyptian columnist’s likening of Americans to cannibals, to bizarre German 9/11 conspiracy theories, to British novelist Margaret Drabble’s confession that "I loathe America." But his main charge, leveled through a rehash of UN wranglings during the run-up to the war in Iraq, is simply that other countries didn’t understand our feelings after 9/11 and didn’t support the American invasion."

I think everyone needs The Art of Spooning: A Cuddler's Handbook though.

WVU-Mountaineers
It's so ironic that Americans don't like when people in Europe don't like them, but find it perfectly acceptable to bash France and Germany all because they didn't support the invasion of Iraq.
