Al Qaeda's deputy leader Ayman al-Zawahri called for an armed struggle to expel "crusader forces and Jews" from Muslim states and said peaceful change was impossible, in a video tape aired by Al Jazeera on Friday.

Well, Iraq is now a war against Al Qaeda to some degree. Unfortunately, we provided them with the battlefield.

Good post, SMan. Sorry to see Idiot highjacked it in an attempt to foist more of his typical anti-U.S. in Iraq b.s. on us.

We definitely need to remember that this is at it's heart just part of the battle against extremist anti-Semitic, anti-Israeli forces across the entire Middle East. There will be no peace in the Middle East until extremist Muslims are eliminated and the "peaceful" Muslim factions (if there really are any) come to accept Israel's God-given right to exist.

Bored, obviously. This place did offer a modicum of entertainment value. I figured I'd give it another try.

I am, at least as much as ever. Thanks!

I guess your mystical incantations worked! tongue.gif

I'm afraid you may not find yourself to be so glad I am back after a while. I really just don't have the patience to give many of your most long-winded dissertations the kind of rebuttal they deserve. More often than not, all I may have the time to do is say "wrong!".

Why aren't dog owners in full control of their animals like they're supposed to be?

EXACTLY! Stiffer punishments for those who don't control their dogs are in order, not preemptive discrimination against any particular breed.

I guess its ok against countrys just not dogs.
SMan
Yes. As soon as a nation of Labradors starts to build nukes, I'll agree with a preemptive strike against them. wink.gif

Dogs?

What did I miss?

I think tatoomeb took a BMIC quote from the dog thread and applied it here.

If this battle is inevitible, better the battlefield be there than here.

So the people we're fighting and killing in Iraq are a lost platoon of well-meaning boy scouts?
BMIC
LOL! Idiot went to Iraq and took a poll of "the people we are fighting and killing in Iraq". Golly, since he used NUMBERS, they must be correct.

Who's to say the "Ninety percent" of them that are Iraqi aren't Iraqi members of Al Qaeda?
BMIC
That's okay. Don't waste your time posting links to sources. In fact I NEVER read any of the cr@p you link to anyway, because most of your sources are biased anyway... tongue.gif

Here's some proof that we are morally superior to the jihadist scumbags.

A US soldier gets shot at by a sniper, who happens to be filming it (hmm, I wonder what they were going to use that video for dry.gif ). The US soldier gets up, gets behind cover and directs the capture of the snipers. The insurgent that shot the soldier is injured during the capture, but guess what? This soldier gives medical aid to the wounded insurgent that just tried to kill him.

EDIT - Working link to the movie. It's not graphic or bloody....the soldier was hit in his body armor.

Stories like this one remind me that we are the good guys, though not without fault, no matter how the rest of the world (and some of our own) would like to portray us.

I'd love to see the video but your link took me to mms.gov. I glanced over the page and no video link jumped out at me. I confess that I'm no Rainman when it comes to finding things. I can search for something in a kitchen drawer 3 times and and not see it, then my wife will open the drawer, reach in and pick it out.

It drives me nuts.

I edited my post to fix it....I hope.

Did anyone watch Nightline last night with the Chechen Terrorist?

I'm still trying to figure out the purpose of the program.

To see that terrorists aren't that hard to find?

That the Russian government isn't being all that upfront about Chechyna? (Sorry about the spelling)

That reporters are important to the war on terror?

That the US media is more open than Russian media? (Didn't we now that.)

That the US is in danger of becoming like Russia if we don't value those who can bring forth important info about terror?

Yes, I suppose it could just have been a news report, but it seems strangely out of place.

I didn't see it but I do believe that ABC WorldNews in general, and Nightline in particular, have led the effort to report what's happening in Chechnya. They have a war correspondent who has lived there for 10 years. His name is Thomas Goltz.

In the past they have drawn parallels to how Americans are willing to give up our rights and freedoms with what Russia has done in dealing with Chechnya.

Moscow (CNSNews.com) - Furious about ABC News' decision to air remarks by wanted Chechen warlord Shamil Basayev, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov ordered his ministry to sever all contacts with the U.S. television network Russian officials have used the episode to accuse the U.S. of practicing double standards in its approach to terrorism. "I have ordered the chief of the Defense Ministry's press service today to cut all contacts between the Defense Ministry and ABC," Ivanov told reporters in the Far Eastern city of Vladivostok. The network would be "persona non grata" at the ministry, he said. It would be denied access, and no interviews will be granted.

I imagine the Russians ought to be feeling the same way towards ABC News as we do towards Al Jazeera. It does beg the question as to how much freedom the press really should have, and whether something ought to be done when media allows itself to be used by terrorists. I'm not sure ABC News is 100% in the right here, any more than Al Jazeera is when they air Bin Laden's statements, but as an American, I still place a high value on a free press, so I'm not ready to jump up and give ABC a whole lot of grief over it.

Absolutley.

It is good to get news from both sides of the issues. Or at least try to see where the other is coming from.

Even if it amounts to free propaganda? That's what I have issue with. It's good to get both sides of every story, true, but on the other hand I'm not so sure that giving terrorists a voice isn't equivalent to providing aid and comfort to the enemy.

Unfortunately most media is propaganda for one side or the other. It is hard to find a balance where all they do is tell a story and do not favor one side or the other. The fact that terrorists get out their propaganda too is just a catch 22. But freedom of the press is something that should never be given up.
