I was thinking about hosting a LAN party here in town. Hoping for like 20 people to be interested. Please post suggestions and things you like to have at a LAN party.

My theory so far:

2 Day Event
Multiple Games
Multiple Dedicated Servers for almost everything
Pizza and Soda Provided
No Smoking/Drinking
Planned out contests and tournaments throughout the two days
Prizes (maybe rinky dink ones)
As Many people as possible
Keeping the LAN Panic people away from doing anything :-) (Inside joke)

Please add comments, and if you have friends that would be interested, get them on this forum and add the the poll. Or just put a post for it. I really would like to do this, but if there's no support then it is worthless for me to put my time and energy into it.

What games would you consider doing? I just dont want BF1942 to be the only game!.
Also have you scoped out any potential place to have it? I know that a few hotels on duel highway over by my place have high speed access.

MOHAA (w/ anti-cheat software)
UT
UT2K3
Q3:Rocket Areana (or one of the other mods)
Counter Strike (w/ anti cheat software)
RTCW
(I will entertain any other server wants)

I feel that if you do a coupel tourneys that people really want to play and keep playing. PLus I can give gag prizes for winners and stuff. Something simple.

Not Certain. I guess I depends on which two days would be better. I would assume that Saturday/Sunday Venue would work the best for everyone. I though about Clarion, and 4 Points, though I'm going to have to figure out their price. I'm sure they aren't cheap. Which mean it would cost more per person. I was thinking of like 15 bucks a person. I really don't wanna go too much higher. And if I could make it lower I would like that as well. I know of a church that for one day would rent us space for like 200 bucks, but no internet. Though Internet would be nice, I might nix it for monetary reasons.

Please explain to this 60's child and non games player just what a lan party is...what does l a n mean?

WV, A LAN is a Local Area Network ( meaning all computers hooked together on this network can communicate with each other in some way shape or form). A Lan party is when a group of Computer gamers get together and hook up their PC's to the network so we can all play the same game together. It's lots of fun, because most games you buy now a days are squad based type war games and having someone to watch your back or open up some covering fire is almost essential .

Well. I can't say that drinking should be there because many people who lan game are under 21. At a hotel you'd be more than welcome to go drink at the bar. though if anyone is obviously drunk, then they would be escorted out. I can't have a liability for providing alcohol to minors.

I'm sorry to hear that you wouldn't come. Thought I can say that if you need to drink to game, then I really wouldn't want you to come anyway.

Anyhow, have you found a group yet willing to start a LAN party yet? I'm through with star wars galaxies, so i'm heading back into my FPS games. Give me a shout if you need help to coordinate.
