What the hell is wrong with people?! I swear women should be screened for mental stability before being allowed to reproduce.
It's heartbreaking that thousands of babies are murdered and at the same time there are infertile couples that long to have children of their own.

German Police Unearth Bodies of Nine Newborn Babies

BERLIN (Aug 1) - Police in Germany have discovered the bones of nine newborn babies buried in flower pots and buckets, and arrested a woman believed to be their mother on suspicion of killing them, authorities said on Monday.

The remains, buried in sand and earth at a site in the eastern state of Brandenburg, were recovered on Sunday after a witness who had been clearing a garage there found human bones stored in a fish tank, a police spokesman said.

"We are assuming there are at least nine corpses," said Michael Neff of the Frankfurt an der Oder state prosecutor's office. He did not comment on a possible motive.

Police arrested a 39-year-old woman on suspicion of killing the babies immediately after they were born between 1988 and 2004.

The woman has said she was the mother of the babies but has not admitted killing them, a court spokesman in Frankfurt an der Oder said. He said her statement was confused.

Local politicians reacted with shock to the discovery and asked how it was possible that the disappearance of the babies over a period of some 16 years had not come to light earlier.

"We are looking at a crime on a scale that, as far as I can remember, has never been seen in the history of the Federal Republic," the Interior Minister of the state of Brandenburg, Joerg Schoenbohm, said in a statement.

"We have to ask ourselves how this incredible crime remained hidden over all these years. It's a question directed at relatives, neighbors, doctors and the authorities," he said.

The woman, believed to be the mother of several other children as well as the dead babies, had stored personal belongings at the site in the town of Brieskow-Finkenheerd, some 80 kilometres (50 miles) southeast of Berlin near the Polish border.

Around 40 police officers with sniffer dogs searched the site on Monday, looking for further remains.

I read an article over the weekend about some woman who had lost two children and they called it a tragedy. But her trailer recently caught fire, and she lost two more kids. The fire dept. hasn't been able to point to anything proving she may have been involved, but they are very suspicious.

Turns out she's had a pile of kids, and the only ones who have survived are the ones that CPS has taken away from her. They quoted her as saying she was "going to keep having kids until CPS let her keep one to raise". There is a perfect example of somebody who should be forcibly sterilized. I wonder why she thinks CPS keeps taking the kids away from her? blink.gif

But I think I've seen you say before that you have kids FIB. You've got to admit that pregnancy and raising them makes you a bit crazy even if you weren't beforehand! I know if I wasn't already grey-haired, my son would have done the trick. Instead, the bald patches are beginning to fill in (10 years after he left my home). rolleyes.gif

Maybe she never visited a physician or went out much, but that seems a bit far-fetched. I guess anything is possible. dry.gif

I don't see why she wouldn't have since they have socialized medicine in Germany.

Yes, I do, I have 2 boys. However stressful pregnancy & the years raising children may be it's obviously no excuse for murdering your child, a newborn at that.
I don't understand how you could carry a child for 9 months only to turn around and murder it after giving birth. This woman clearly has issues, I wonder if maybe the murders were some kind of sacrificial offering or something along those lines. Whatever the reason, I hope she gets the maximum punishment for these crimes. mad.gif

Are you sure this story is legit?

I can't find it anywhere else on the net, not even the Reuters site.

There is an old German folk tale about a woman with nine babies in a copper kettle.  The nine babies is what makes me suspicious.

Yup
It's listed on the Reuters UK site

FIB, I think you misunderstood me. I wasn't saying it was a reason for murdering one's child(ren), just that sometimes they make you crazy. My boy made me totally crazy, but I wouldn't give him up for all the world.

Yep, it's a real story. I saw it on either MSNBC or CNN yesterday myself. Too bad it isn't an old wive's tale.

Since I was wrong about the story being false, (sorry) I'll go out on a limb again and predict that one of the theories about the why and how of this will be attributed to Communism.

Why, because it was in East Germany? I doubt that would be the cause.

No. More likely it has something to do with a Satanic cult. But I've searched and nobody has reported any such connection so far.

You were right, of course. Here you go.

"In an interview with Der Tagesspiegel newspaper, Schoenbohm said the regime of former communist East Germany was responsible for the squalid conditions in which the crime occurred.

He cited the "atmosphere of violence and coerced proletarianism" as being contributing factors."

What a bunch of bull. People kill babies in capitalistic socities and communist ones. Anyway, it looks like they're searching for more bodies.

She said she always placed a blanket over the newborn after delivery and when she woke from her drunken stupor, the baby had always been dead. She did not admit to using force on any of them.

(13 children total, Geez!) blink.gif

It’s obvious that the woman has issues, mentally and alcohol related. Hopefully the court system can prove that she was mentally stable enough to know that what she was doing was horrifically wrong. mad.gif

Not the liberals and their media. They don't believe in abstinence, remember? Even though they did a pretty decent job of it for ages, it seems people can no longer be expected to control their sexual urges.
