An actual case:
In southern WV, a mom was shocked and devastated to learn that one of her children had been molested by a "family friend".
The mom was then falsely accused of "knowing" about the molestation and of "grooming" one of her children specifically to be molested by the "family friend".
At a time when the child who had been harmed needed her family the most, the child and all her siblings were taken into CPS custody. Family members were having difficulty getting the children out of foster care.
The mom contacted Family Rights WV. With information and resources supplied by Family Rights WV, the mom and her family members worked together. It was proven that knowingly false statements were made against the mom in the case. The mom approached the prosecutor with the evidence. The allegations against the mom were dismissed and all her children were returned safely home.
The real perpetrator of this crime, the "family friend", will be facing many years in prison.

It is amazing how often someone is falsely accused and families are ripped apart by CPS, but then CPS will also continue to return children to truly abusive parents/guardians.
Kind of makes you wonder what the solution is.
Maybe if CPS can't get it right, we should do away with them and figure out a way to protect children and support families in distress.
This particular issues is close to my heart. I have friends who are emergency foster care parents and see the heartbreak of having to return children to dangerous homes. I also have a very close friend who is currently being abused by CPS by untrue allegations of his estranged wife. She is friends with the DSS caseworkers in the small town where this family lives. The director of DSS is the sister of the judge hearing the case (my friend's estranged wife is an attorney and former employee of the judge)! What a crock. There are four (wonderful) children in this family. One is in a group home, two are fostered by extended families and one is still with the mother. What a shame.

Sorting out false allegations and situations caused by poverty from real cases of child abuse which actually do require intervention certainly seems to be a problem, in WV as well as nationwide.
The cases that receive the most media attention nationwide are cases where children were left in truly dangerous situations or truly abusive homes or else were returned to dangerous/abusive situations.
However, according to Richard Wexler of the National Coalition of Child Protect Reform http://www.nccpr.org , " ...But the typical foster child was not taken from a parent like that. Such cases represent a tiny fraction of the child protective services caseload."

A Department of Children and Families employee has
been fired for falsifying child abuse protective
investigation records.
Kerry Griffin, a former child protective investigator
based in Sumter County, falsified commencement times,
attempted face-to-face contacts and other information
in investigation records, a state inspector general
report said.
Griffin worked as investigator in DCF's District 13,
which includes Citrus, Hernando, Lake, Marion and
Sumter counties.
"When our job is to protect children and families, we
have to strive for perfection," DCF District 13
spokesman Al Zimmerman said. "So there is no way we
can accept what happened here, and our only choice was
to terminate the employee immediately."
Discrepancies were found in four of the 40 open cases
that were assigned to Griffin. Based on information
obtained by investigators, he had falsified
information in HomeSafenet between Aug. 1 and Aug. 22.
HomeSafenet is a statewide computer system used by
caseworkers to enter data about child safety.
Griffin was fired on Aug. 31, the report said.
An investigation was launched into Griffin's case
notes because of discrepancies in his statements to
his supervisor, the report said.
Those discrepancies included both the timing of visits
to homes to investigate child abuse complaints and
whether he visited other homes at all.
For example, Griffin said he had responded to an abuse
investigation on Aug. 16, while the child's
grandmother said Griffin did not respond until Aug.

Griffin claimed that he visited a family's home, but
the mother said he had made appointments to visit her,
but never showed up at the home. Griffin could not be
reached for comment Monday.
It's great that OTHER STATES are starting to take corrective action against social workers who are caught LYING and FABRICATING evidence in child abuse/neglect/endangerment cases.
But why isn't West Virginia doing it?
We have families in several different cases with PROOF that social workers lied, fabricated evidences in their cases, yet..hmmm we can't get ANYONE to even LOOK at the evidence.
Now don't you just have to wonder WHY?
Is it because the CHILDREN of the falsely accused are the ones that NOBODY gives a flying whoop about all these years??
Or is it because it's "LET'S COVER OUR REARENDS TIME" AND they're afraid of more civil lawsuits IF these parents were ALLOWED to present their evidence and prove their innocence?

My 3 Children were taken from me on June 14,2005 because I has prescibed pain meds. I was very ill with MRSA ( LOOK IT UP ) it was in my nose. SO my EX- Husband called and said I was Stiffing my Meds !
This was the 9th time he was called in. My drug test was sent to a lab in Richmond Va. The Legal Confirmnation drug testing is 300 nanograms. They tested at 75ng. This MRSA ruined my looks I was pretty enough to get a billboard offer for a Club. But Now my nose is caved in.
It was really hard to look in the mirror. I cried alot so they said it was Drugs.
I had a baby 4/06/2004 and was healthy and 10 days later I could not get out of bed. I went to Doctors and no one could find out what was wrong so I went to different Dr. MY EX SAID I WAS DR SHOPPING. DR.s asked if I ever done drugs I said yes 6 times on a white water rafting trip in 2003. NONE SINCE .
They just sent me home with Pain Killers. THEY WOULD NOT HELP ME CAUSE I GOT LABELED A DRUG USER .. WHEN I WAS JUST BEING HONEST CAUSE I FOUND GOD AND I SHALL NOT LIE.
I worked very hard to ack like nothing was wrong so my kids would not worry. Their STEP MOTHER tells my children i dont love them and that I am a drugie. My ExHusband didn't want a second child so denied them both I had to prove with blood tests. SHE DATED MY NEIGHBOR CAUSE HE WAS SUPPOSED TO GET 50,000.00 FROM A CAR ACCIDENT BUT LEFT HIM AS SOON AS HE LOST HIS CASE! They tried to get my Child support dropped 3 times with no luck. To get FULL Custody was there only HOPE. WE HAD A court DATE set up for 1 year and a have I got Sick with MRSA 6 Months before and CPS Came in with One DRUG TEST WITH MY MEDS ON IT >> TOOK MY CHILDREN and said my nose was damaged from years of COKE USE. I Had to go to Rehab. MY COURT DATE WAS # DAYS AFTER I GOT OUT OF REHAB
They Gave MY Youngest son back 18 months old after being home from rehab 3 weeks. (from my new Husband)
I would have never took a drug test if i thought i was not doing everything right.

I know it seems crazy, but this could be a true story. It is sad how often these things really happen.
It is scary how easy it is for CPS to take away your children based on false allegations. It is a huge problem and it really does deserve attention.

Funding has been made available to states to specifically look for "drug users", so we're hearing more of these kinds of cases and false-positives in drug testing across the U.S.
I looked up MRSA just briefly, it appears it's a very anti-biotic resistant staph infection?
Really, people should be read their miranda rights by CPS workers just like police are supposed to do when police arrest somebody...because anything a parent says can be twisted and used against them.

People do make mistakes and they do make bad choices. Who among us could say they had never made any mistakes whatsoever regarding any and all issues in their past? Not many, I'm sure...
Admitting a mistake and acknowledging it is the only way to correct a situation.
If a parent is on drugs, it really does affect one's ability to parent and to keep their children safe. If a parent really does have a drug problem, the very best thing they can do for their children and themselves is to admit there is a problem and enter into a drug rehabilitation program and get help.
But, for people who have made mistakes in the past, people can change and get their act together. And if a parent has gotten their act together currently and is being a good, fit parent currently...., then past mistakes (depending on what the mistake is) shouldn't be used against them currently....
It is not unusual to have to go to several doctors before finding help for many various medical conditions. For example, it was reported that one lady in WV had to go to 14 doctors before she got an accurate diagnosis of Lyme's Disease and I know of several other non-drug related cases where conditions were misdiagnosed or missed.
I'm a former soccer mom, grassroots advocate and in no way fully informed about all the issues involving drugs, drug testing, medical conditions etc. I only started researching these problems just recently when we started hearing about false-positives etc. cropped up when the "looking for drug grants" became available. This is where we could really use the help of doctors willing to pitch in and help supply info. and such. But in the meantime, we keep on plugging along trying to research the best we can and doing the best we can.

I admit mistakes and then PEOPLE think that its not the truth . (Four out of three people)
I do not look at other people and point out any of thier wrongs and its sad when someone is honest and gets put down for it.
I focus on getting Better instead of Bitter.
Things are really starting to go good for me I am getting alot of reply's and gathering story's to publish I got the attention of the Governor .
And a good Pharmacologist is coming to court for me to state how the drug test they used to take my child was unlawful and inconsistant with human life.
I was wondering about the funding the Find drug users. and False positive Drug screens. If you have anymore information on that i would love to read . Thanks Cristi

I do not look at other people and point out any of thier wrongs and its sad when someone is honest and gets put down for it.

I am not mean like Heather so I wouldn't assume your unstable or a druggie but I am
a math stickler and last time I checked 4 isn't coming out of 3. I think people have a hard time believing some of these stories because they seem so unreal. As a father if this happened to me I would lose my mind! they could take my job, car, and house but NOT MY KIDS! The scary part is that if just 25% of what you say is true someone is abusing their power but if its 100% true this is vicious and hateful and what
