Most people now days drive long distances to work. How far do you drive.
I`m retired. I don`t count.

I just went from 2.5 miles to 10 miles one way.
They moved the location of my office.

I'm in the 1 to 10 mile category, for work and school. I would be commuting from Hagerstown, but I couldn't find a house I could afford.

I know I'm cheating, but I (momsapilot) logged in and voted twice, once for myself and once for the hubby. I drive about 5 miles into downtown, hubby drives 2 or so up by the airport. If there were good shoulders along the roads, we'd bike to work in nice weather. However, Marsh Pike and PA Ave would be risking life and limb.

I'm less than 5 miles. To me, that convenience is worth about $8K-$10K in salary difference working locally to avoid the hassle. I have no traffic patience.

I used to drive 65 miles one way... but since i gave up the Info Tech career to open my own biz, it will be about 4 miles.

I drive approximately 18 miles one way. Not bad...all back roads

45 miles each way. But it's all back roads and most of it pretty moderate as far as congestion goes. The commute's not so bad - I just hate the people, traffic and general craziness of Mont. Co., where I work. Wash Co. is so much more laid back and quiet - the difference is so dramatic that I swear I fall in love with Wash Co all over again every time I arrive home from work. I love it and wish I never had to leave it. I'm (still) looking for a job close to home.

My commute amounts to walking down the hall from my kitchen to my home office.

I worked in Frederick until July 04; that commute was 70 miles each way, down Route 70. Now, I'm in Chambersburg, and that commute is 34 miles each way. The drive is a little bit of Route 30, but mostly back roads thru farms, much better. However, I HATE my job. I'd drive the 70 miles and just rent a room in Frederick for weeknights if I could get my old job back.

agh... now i see why you don't like the people migrating West. The Mo Co people you work with pluck your nerves, eh? LOL - You do realize its just a different culture down there...right? You either accept it or get T.H. out... Good luck on the job search.

For almost ten years I drove 68 miles each way. Since this past December I now drive six miles each way, which is great !!! The only problem is they are moving all the positions in my department to Denver. When I find a new job I'll probably have the long commute again.

I drive 54 miles each way, all interstate. Currently I work the off-hours with pretty much no traffic to compete with. Unfortunately I will soon have to fight my way to work during the daytime 9-5 rush. OOO boy!!

I hate to admit it, but I do drive. At one time I had to be here at 5:00 am and was not comfortable walking at that time of day. My schedule changed a few weeks ago, so I think I will start walking next week :-)

I think one of those little razor motor bikes is a better idea.
and cheaper...
How about we rig up a system of ziplines in downtown from building to building...one from her top floor straight to her HM window. Everybody could use them.

Thanks Yoss, those things are dangerous and illegal.
In fact, just 2 days ago, I saw HPD pull a kid over and I heard them ask the kid "Do you know that these are illegal?"
But I suppose if I rode through everyones font yard and not on the street....
Wait! I am so tall that I am afraid my knees would bump my chin if I tried to ride one! LOL
I'd rather walk (but I would love the segway...)

It takes me about 40 minutes, depending on traffic. I consider it local. Anything more local and I'd take a $20-$30 pay cut, which I'm not interested in right now. My husband now drives the same (we work at the same place). He used to drive about 1 hour 15 minutes.

The Segway is phenomenal. I have never personally used one, but have heard only good things about them. Dean Kamen is the inventor and a genius in my opinion. The Segway is not his only incredible invention. Seem to be very popular with the government. At BWI airport, the law enforcement personnel traded in most of their mountain bikes for Segways, to use indoors. With the completion of the new A & B terminals I'm sure they come in handy. Zippy as well!

Stop by
Segway of Hagerstown. Tell Steve and Sally that Mike sent you.

If the price was right, i would buy one to drive to the office on good weather days...
