ohmy.gif OUCH!!! ohmy.gif

That just looks painful as heck!

Could someone explain to me the reasoning behind getting a Tattoo?

I'm not making fun, just wondering what would drive some to this form of expression.

huh.gif

For me it is a way to display art which I have been a fan of since I was young, also it is a form of self expression. One of the things about tattooing that has kept me coming back is I think of it almost as a form of therapy. It probably sounds weird to some especially someone who has not gone through the process. I find it to be a great way to relieve tension. I also remember certain periods of my life through the work that I had done at those times. Whether to memorialize a loved one or a signifigant period of time or to display a fascination such as art, wildlife or a certain culture it becomes almost a lifestyle for some.

It seems to me to be nothing but a way of identifying one'sself with the lowest common denominator. A way to fit in with total slimeballs. I can hardly believe how many of the folks here have tats. Yuck! I'm not making fun either - Just expressing my disgust!

Or separating ourselves from the holier than thou slimeballs.
cfulmor
Ok, my post was not meant to start the "mud-slinging". I myself have no tattoo's or piercings and have no plans of getting any. I'm a bit to conservative for that form of experssion.

My dad had several tats that he got when he served in the Air Force and the Navy during WWII and Korea. BMIC, I don't appreciate you referring to our veterans who served to protect our county slimeballs.

I've wanted a tat, but couldn't decide on something that wouldn't look stupid when I'm 50. I finally decided on chinesse characters. I want it on my middle of my back, so it can be seen if I want it too. My husband would like one, but know he's scared due to hep. My sister finally got one on her ankle (a rose).

I can see your point, and okay maybe make a distinction for them. I can see how that could be a little different ... I guess I'm a little undecided about military cases. But in general I'm still disgusted.
Heather
Are those here that are tattooed, pierced as well? Or do you just have a thing for tattoos?

A friend of mine saw a vibrating tongue ring. biggrin.gif

Ears only and I rarely wear them. But I see nothing wrong with it just another form of expression.
cfulmor
I must be a tad to old-fashioned, I still believe earings are for those of the female gender.
YeomanWeller
I've got one ear pierced and one piercing "somewhere else"...

It would be hard if not almost impossible to get hep from any reputably shop. All needles are one time use only and the artist should make a point of opening the package in front of you so you can see. Everything else is steralized in an autoclave after every use.

When I was a teenager, the thing to do was to have an uneven number of piercings in your ears. I had both ears done, but got an extra on one side to be cool. cool.gif Apparently someone set out to discredit the coolness because next thing you know, everyone says you're gay if you wear it like that.

I still have people ask me if I'm a lesbian because I have two holes in one ear and only one in the other. Jeez, grow up already. happy.gif

No tats yet, but I'm thinking of getting BMIC tattooed on my butt cheek. biggrin.gif

Thank you for not taking it too seriously! Just because I am disgusted doesn't mean it's the end of the world. It's nice to see someone who doesn't go ballistic every time I express an unpopular opinion!

I have each ear pierced three times. If I could find my bellybutton, I'd get it pierced laugh.gif My hubby used to have his ear pierced, but didn't like to wear it to work, so it closed up.

Very patriotic of you to be disgusted by military members who have tats. I work for the military and many have tats, as well as the goverment civilians and contractors. You'd never know most have tats just by looking at them unless you actually see their tats. Just because one has a tat does not make them slime. You shouldn't judge a book by its cover.

It is the way you express your opinion.
You basically lumped all tattooed people into one group-slimeballs.
Naomi
I have my ears pierced...twice in each. No tatts tho sad.gif
BMIC
Can you all clear up a point of confusion. When I was growing up, for a man to have the left ear pierced was "cool" but the right ear meant they were gay. Yet I was recently told that that's no longer the case locally - that an american teenaged boy who gets both ears pirced is not what I would think by the old rules - a cool queer, just cool.

Is he telling me the truth, or is the young man with both ears pierced actually gay and just trying to cover it up?

It is now common practice for straight males to pierce both ears.

Having one's ear, no matter which, does not indicate one's sexual preference. I know several gay men who don't have either ear pierced. It is very common for straight men to have both ears pierced.
Naomi
